Positive performance was recorded at three stations connected to passenger ports, namely Merak Station in Banten, Ketapang Station in Banyuwangi, and Tanjung Priok Station in North Jakarta. Throughout the first semester of 2026, these three stations served 3,880,577 customer movements for boarding and alighting, an increase of 5.12% compared to the same period in 2025 with 3,691,429 customers.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, explained that this achievement shows the role of railways as a connector to sea transportation hubs that serve passenger travel. Not all ports have passenger services, so stations connected to ferry crossings and sea passenger terminals help the public continue intermodal journeys more easily.

Merak Station is one of the stations that serves customers who will continue their journey to Merak Port to cross to Sumatra Island. Throughout January–June 2026, Merak Station recorded 306,571 gate-in customers and 331,640 gate-out customers. Total customer movement reached 638,211 customers, an increase of 16.64% compared to the first semester of 2025 with 547,171 customers.

Merak Station serves Local Commuter Line customers on the Rangkasbitung–Merak route. On this line, KAI also introduced the Farmer-Trader Train which provides a more accommodating travel space for farmers, traders, and communities carrying merchandise and agricultural products. During the first semester of 2026, the Farmer-Trader Train on the Rangkasbitung–Merak route served 26,074 customers. Since it began operating on December 1, 2025, this service has been used by 30,189 customers, consisting of 4,115 customers during the initial operational period in December 2025 and 26,074 customers throughout January–June 2026.

Positive performance was also seen in the regular Local Train service on the Rangkasbitung–Merak route. Throughout the first semester of 2026, this service served 2,414,115 customers, an increase of 9.40% compared to the same period in 2025 with 2,206,671 customers. Anne stated that the Rangkasbitung–Merak line has a role closely related to the daily needs of the community, ranging from customers who work, trade, carry agricultural products, travel for tourism, to those continuing their journey to Merak Port.

In addition to Merak, Ketapang Station in Banyuwangi also strengthens rail connectivity with Ketapang Port which serves crossings to Gilimanuk, Bali. The station, previously known as Banyuwangi Baru Station, is located very close to the port. After getting off the train, customers can walk to the port area to continue their journey by ferry.

Throughout the first semester of 2026, Ketapang Station served 191,115 boarding customers and 211,347 alighting customers. Total customer movement reached 402,462 customers, growing 7.06% compared to the first semester of 2025 with 375,927 customers.

In North Jakarta, Tanjung Priok Station also plays a role as a station connected to a passenger port area. Unlike Merak and Ketapang which serve access to ferry crossing ports, Tanjung Priok is connected to a sea passenger terminal. Throughout the first semester of 2026, Tanjung Priok Station recorded 1,488,531 gate-in customers and 1,351,373 gate-out customers. Total customer movement reached 2,839,904 customers, an increase of 2.59% compared to the first semester of 2025 with 2,768,331 customers.

Tanjung Priok Station currently serves the Commuter Line on the Jakarta Kota–Tanjung Priok route. This line is also becoming increasingly relevant with the presence of the Commuter Line service connected to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station, expanding mobility options for the public in the North Jakarta area.

Anne added that station connectivity with passenger ports provides direct benefits for the community. Customers can use trains to reach ports with more scheduled, efficient journeys that are connected to activity centers. KAI will continue to strengthen services at these stations, considering that Merak, Ketapang, and Tanjung Priok demonstrate that railways can serve as connectors to sea travel, both for ferry crossings and inter-island passenger ships.
