From Feeder Trains to Whoosh, EduTrain Introduces Modern Transportation to Children from Orphanages
A train journey has become a learning space for children from orphanages to gain a closer understanding of the development of railway technology in Indonesia. Through the EduTrain program, participants gained direct experience using Feeder Train and Whoosh services while learning about technology, operations, services, safety, and the modern transportation ecosystem.
EduTrain was organized by KAI in collaboration with PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) as part of the celebrations for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia and KAI’s 81st Anniversary. The program was designed in two travel batches, Jakarta–Bandung and Bandung–Jakarta, involving children from orphanages.
The EduTrain program serves as a space for sharing knowledge and experiences with the younger generation. Through direct travel experiences, participants are invited to see how railway technology is applied in transportation services, from journey operations to safety aspects.
Each EduTrain batch involved 90 participants, consisting of 81 children and 9 companions from three orphanages. Each orphanage was represented by 27 children and three companions. This composition was designed to ensure that the learning process and guidance during the journey could take place in a more focused way.
The program took participants on Feeder Train and Whoosh services while introducing them to Indonesia’s modern railway services. The children learned about Whoosh High-Speed Railway technology, journey operations and services, station facilities, and safety aspects.
EduTrain activities also included interactive onboard sessions, inspirational classes, sharing sessions with KAI and KCIC representatives, educational games, and introductions to various station facilities. The materials covered the roles of KAI and Whoosh, safety and etiquette when using public transportation, and an introduction to the railway industry.
Direct experience became an important part of the participants’ learning process. By observing, trying, and asking questions directly, the children could learn about technology in a simpler way that was closer to their everyday experiences.
EduTrain is also designed to encourage participants’ motivation to learn, self-confidence, and courage in planning their future. The experience of using railway services serves as an introduction to various fields of study and professions within the modern transportation ecosystem.
Through the collaboration between KAI and KCIC, participants had the opportunity to learn from the services, technology, and human resources working in the railway sector. The companies’ knowledge and experience were shared with the younger generation so that technological development can provide broader benefits to society.
Through EduTrain, participants are expected to return home with meaningful experiences, new knowledge, and the confidence to have broader aspirations and perspectives about their future.
