
Celebrate Independence with Affordable Travel, Rp8 Fares Available Today as 27,620 KAI Promo Tickets Sold
Planning to join Independence Day celebrations, take a quick trip, or visit family on August 17? KAI Group is offering more affordable travel options to accompany Indonesians in celebrating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. Today, Monday (17/8), a special Rp8 fare is available for LRT Jabodebek and most Commuter Line services, subject to the terms and conditions of each service.
The special fare can be enjoyed for a variety of Independence Day activities, from joining local celebrations and taking a holiday trip to spending time with family.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the special fare is part of KAI’s effort to provide public transportation options that fit the spirit of Independence Day.
August 17 is celebrated together by people across many places. We want public transportation to be part of that celebration by providing more affordable travel options.
The Rp8 fare applies to LRT Jabodebek and most Commuter Line services, subject to each service’s terms and conditions. Commuter Line Soekarno-Hatta Airport is not included in the special fare program.
The Independence Day celebration is not limited to urban travel. For those planning to travel between cities, KAI is also offering a 17% discount on commercial economy-class Long-Distance Train tickets specifically for departures on August 17, 2026.
Public interest in the promotion is reflected in the number of tickets sold. As of Monday (17/8) at 09:00 WIB, a total of 27,620 discounted tickets had been sold.
Based on data from KAI’s Ticketing Center, the bookings consisted of 7,701 tickets on August 14, 6,650 tickets on August 15, 10,353 tickets on August 16, and 2,916 tickets on August 17, 2026, up to 09:00 WIB.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the strong response to the program reflects the diverse travel needs of customers during the Independence Day momentum.
Customers can choose the service that best fits their travel needs. For urban mobility, Rp8 fares are available on LRT Jabodebek and most Commuter Line services, while intercity travelers can take advantage of the 17% discount on commercial economy-class Long-Distance Trains, subject to availability.
Among customers taking advantage of the 17% discount, Kaligung recorded the highest number of bookings with 2,193 tickets. It was followed by Joglosemarkerto with 1,812 tickets, Kamandaka with 1,555 tickets, Kertajaya with 1,480 tickets, and Ambarawa Ekspres with 1,444 tickets.
In terms of departure stations, Pasar Senen recorded the highest number of bookings with 2,882 tickets. It was followed by Semarang Tawang with 1,837 tickets, Bekasi with 1,331 tickets, Semarang Poncol with 1,324 tickets, and Tegal with 1,019 tickets.
With these special fare options, customers can choose the travel service that best suits their needs. KAI, however, reminds customers to check the applicable fare terms, travel schedules, and selected services before departure.
