Introducing Nusantara Explorer: A New Way to Discover Indonesia Through Luxury Rail Travel
Imagine traveling across Indonesia in a premium sleeper cabin while enjoying exceptional dining, rich cultural experiences, and breathtaking scenery along the way. That vision is now becoming a reality with Nusantara Explorer, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero)'s newest tourism train, developed following the vision and directive of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
More than just a train, Nusantara Explorer is designed to transform every journey into an unforgettable travel experience—where the destination begins the moment passengers step on board.
On Thursday (July 30), President Prabowo became the first passenger to travel aboard the Nusantara Explorer during an official state visit, marking the debut of a new railway experience that combines premium comfort, outstanding hospitality, Indonesian culture, local culinary delights, and spectacular landscapes in one seamless journey.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the Nusantara Explorer reflects President Prabowo's vision of creating a world-class tourism train that showcases Indonesia's rich cultural heritage while strengthening the country's tourism appeal.
The entire train was designed and modified by KAI's skilled workforce at Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng, highlighting the expertise and innovation of Indonesian railway professionals.
The Nusantara Explorer consists of 12 coaches, including premium sleeper cabins, a Grand Restaurant, a stylish lounge, and supporting operational coaches.
Passengers will be able to choose from three sleeper cabin categories—Signature Class, Advance Class, and Compact Class—each offering different levels of comfort and privacy to suit various travel preferences.
On board, guests can indulge in an elevated travel experience through the elegant Grand Restaurant, while the lounge provides a relaxing atmosphere complete with comfortable seating, a bar, a piano, entertainment facilities, and panoramic windows showcasing Indonesia's beautiful landscapes throughout the journey.
The train's interior celebrates Indonesia's cultural identity with warm materials, refined lighting, and design inspirations drawn from Wayang Kulit, Lasem Batik, Sekar Jagad, and Balinese motifs, creating an atmosphere that is both sophisticated and unmistakably Indonesian.
According to Bobby, Nusantara Explorer was developed to make the journey itself part of the holiday experience—bringing together premium comfort, exceptional service, authentic cuisine, and Indonesia's cultural richness in every trip.
KAI is currently completing the final development stages before commercial operations begin. Details regarding routes, schedules, fares, final train composition, and launch dates will be announced once all operational, service, safety, and reliability requirements have been fully completed.
With Nusantara Explorer, KAI invites travelers to experience Indonesia from a whole new perspective—where every rail journey becomes a destination in itself.
