KAI Rail Clinic: A Moving Health Center That Brings Smiles to Communities
August is always filled with the spirit of independence. But this year felt even more special for residents in North Sumatra and Yogyakarta. Through its Rail Clinic program, KAI directly visited stations to provide free health services.
The Rail Clinic is unique—it is known as a “moving health center” because all medical services are available inside a train set. These include general check-ups, dental care, ultrasounds for pregnant women, basic laboratory tests, eye examinations, and a mini pharmacy. All services are free!
Throughout August, the Rail Clinic visited three locations: Siantar Station (August 14), Bajalinggei (August 15), and Pasarnguter, Sukoharjo (August 27). The public response was overwhelming. At Pasarnguter alone, 200 patients received treatment, 50 people received glasses and vitamins, 60 students joined health education sessions, and 40 people participated in blood donation activities.
In addition to medical services, the community was also educated about clean living habits, the prevention of infectious diseases, and the importance of safety around railway tracks. In some locations, KAI also brought the Rail Library, a mini library inside the train filled with storybooks and encyclopedias. Children were especially happy to read new books.
"Trains are not only about transportation, but also about health, knowledge, and welfare," said Anne Purba, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI.
Through the Rail Clinic and Rail Library, KAI continues to demonstrate its commitment to the community. It is not only about transporting passengers to their destinations, but also about delivering real benefits for a healthier and more educated life.
