KAI Collaborates with GMF to Improve Railway Equipment Reliability
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF) regarding a Cooperation Plan for the Utilization of Facilities and Resources in Rotating Equipment Maintenance and Maintenance Digitalization.
The MoU signing was carried out by KAI Director of Railway Equipment Management Eko Purwanto and GMF Director of Business & Base Operation Ananta Widjaja during the celebration of KAI's 77th Anniversary at the Ir. H. Djuanda Training Center, Bandung City, on Wednesday (28/9).
This MoU serves as a commitment and foundation for KAI and GMF to explore cooperation plans, including the utilization of GMF's Bonded Logistics Center, marketing cooperation through increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), repair and maintenance of locomotive engine components, and digitalization of railway equipment maintenance management.
Railway equipment maintenance is essential for railway operations to extend engine lifespan and mitigate potential component failures. Maintaining optimal and reliable equipment performance is one of the important aspects in improving railway travel safety.
This MoU is also aligned with the digital transformation currently being promoted by KAI. The hope is that digitalization of equipment maintenance management can improve efficiency, accuracy, and minimize errors in maintaining railway facilities.
KAI's initiative to collaborate with GMF is an effort to strengthen synergy among state-owned enterprises (SOEs). GMF is a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia with extensive experience in aircraft maintenance, repair, and inspection, which requires a high level of accuracy and precision.
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that during this special momentum, KAI continues to strive to improve railway travel safety, one of which is through strengthening equipment maintenance. The strong collaboration between KAI and GMF will further strengthen the railway maintenance system to remain reliable.
"Hopefully, this MoU can provide added value for both KAI and GMF. This collaboration is also expected to support KAI's efforts in operating trains with zero accidents and improving the quality of railway equipment maintenance, so that more people will use trains as their trusted mode of transportation," said Didiek.
GMF President Director Andi Fahrurrozi added that expanding market share into non-aviation segments is part of GMF's efforts to achieve continuous improvement after the pandemic. Cooperation with KAI is expected to become GMF's next portfolio in expanding its industrial solution services.
By bringing the safety standards that have been implemented in the aviation sector, GMF hopes that its services can contribute to improving the quality of Indonesia's railway industry.
"GMF has a mission to demonstrate real contributions for Indonesia, one of which is by supporting the country's vital sectors. With the spirit of SOE synergy, hopefully this cooperation can bring benefits to both parties.
Hopefully, GMF can become one of KAI's supporters in providing the best services for Indonesian society, and hopefully the trust given by KAI can support the recovery efforts that GMF is currently promoting," concluded Andi.
