Starting 20 April 2022, long-distance train passengers aged 6–17 who have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are no longer required to present a negative RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test result. However, they must have completed the second dose of vaccination.

"This regulation follows the issuance of the Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 49 of 2022 regarding the Amendment to Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 39 of 2022 on Guidelines for Domestic Travel by Rail Transportation During the COVID-19 Pandemic, issued on 19 April 2022," said KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus.

Meanwhile, children aged 6–17 who have received only the first vaccine dose are still required to present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 3 × 24 hours before departure.

The latest travel requirements for long-distance train passengers are as follows:
a) Passengers who have received the third (booster) dose are not required to present a negative COVID-19 test result.
b) Passengers who have received the second vaccine dose must present a negative Rapid Antigen test result taken within 1 × 24 hours or a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 3 × 24 hours before departure.
c) Passengers who have received only the first vaccine dose must present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 3 × 24 hours before departure.
d) Passengers who have not been vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons must present a medical certificate issued by a government hospital along with a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 3 × 24 hours before departure.
e) Passengers aged 6–17 who have received their second vaccine dose are not required to present a negative RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test result.
f) Passengers under 6 years of age are not required to be vaccinated or present a negative Rapid Antigen or RT-PCR test result, but they must be accompanied by a companion who meets the applicable travel requirements.

To streamline the verification process, KAI has integrated its ticketing system with the PeduliLindungi application to validate passengers' vaccination records and COVID-19 test results. As a result, the information can be automatically verified when passengers book tickets through the KAI Access application and again during boarding. However, physical proof of vaccination and COVID-19 test results is still accepted.

"With these updated requirements, prospective passengers are encouraged to complete their COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible so they can enjoy a safe and healthy Eid homecoming journey," said Joni.

KAI continues to provide free vaccination services for the public and long-distance train passengers at selected stations and KAI-owned healthcare clinics (Mediska Clinics). The programme is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and local Health Offices to support the Government's national vaccination programme.

KAI has designated the 2022 Eid Transportation period from 22 April to 13 May 2022 (H-10 to H+10 of Eid). As of 20 April, KAI had sold 1,148,808 long-distance train tickets, representing 46% of the total tickets available. The most popular routes during this year's Eid travel period include Jakarta–Surabaya (round trip), Jakarta–Yogyakarta (round trip), Jakarta–Malang (round trip), and several other routes. The most popular departure dates for the outbound Eid homecoming journey are 29 and 30 April, while the return travel peaks are expected on 7 and 8 May.

KAI noted that train tickets during the Eid Transportation period are generally still widely available. The company encourages customers to consider alternative travel dates or routes if their preferred train service has sold out. Travelling on alternative dates is also in line with President Joko Widodo's recommendation for the public to begin their Eid homecoming journey earlier.

Customers can also take advantage of the Connecting Train feature available in the KAI Access application, which offers alternative travel options by combining connecting train services.

"KAI is also continuing the KAI Access Ramadan Festive 2022 promotion until 21 April 2022 for departures between 20 April and 13 May 2022. This promotion is exclusively available for ticket purchases made through the KAI Access application," Joni concluded. (Public Relations KAI)
