First in Indonesia, KAI Divre II Introduces Bicycle Baggage Car on Local Train
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra officially launched an innovation for non-folding bicycle baggage service on the Sibinuang Train operating on the Padang–Pariaman–Naras (round trip) route at Padang Station on Saturday (20/11).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by West Sumatra Vice Governor Audy Joinaldy, Pariaman Mayor Genius Umar, and Vice President of KAI Divre II West Sumatra, Miming Kuncoro.
The non-folding bicycle baggage service on the Sibinuang Train has undergone a series of trials. The facility is now ready for use by passengers who wish to travel by train while bringing their bicycles.
In his remarks, Vice President of KAI Divre II West Sumatra Miming Kuncoro explained that the bicycle baggage car can accommodate up to 12 non-folding bicycles. This facility is available free of charge for train passengers.
"By simply purchasing a Rp5,000 ticket for the Sibinuang Train, passengers can enjoy access to the bicycle baggage facility if they wish to bring their bicycles on board," said Miming.
To use the non-folding bicycle baggage service, passengers can add the facility through the KAI Access application when booking their train tickets.
Meanwhile, West Sumatra Vice Governor Audy Joinaldy expressed his appreciation for KAI's service innovation, stating that it aligns with the regional government's plan to reactivate the Naras–Sungai Limau railway line.
He also said that the innovation would significantly contribute to improving transportation services in West Sumatra while supporting the development of regional tourism.
"Therefore, let's visit Pariaman by combining non-folding bicycles with train travel," Audy added.
Pariaman Mayor Genius Umar also expressed his appreciation, noting that a plan first proposed on May 31, 2021, had finally been realized and is expected to further strengthen Pariaman's position as a tourism destination.
"During our meeting on May 31, we discussed plans to provide facilities that would make it easier for cyclists to travel between Padang and Pariaman," explained Genius Umar.
According to him, the realization of the plan reflects KAI's quick response and commitment.
"It is truly an innovative initiative. Innovation is especially important in today's government," the Mayor added.
He further explained that Pariaman is a tourism city, and this innovation plays an important role in supporting visits to the city's marine sport tourism attractions.
"Sport tourism can now be more closely integrated with Pariaman City, allowing cyclists from Padang to travel to Pariaman while bringing their bicycles by train. Thank you to KAI for being responsive," he said.
Several bicycles belonging to train passengers were transported and placed inside the non-folding bicycle baggage car.
Echoing the Mayor's remarks, Miming Kuncoro expressed hope that the introduction of the non-folding bicycle baggage facility would encourage more people to travel by train, especially cycling enthusiasts.
The innovation is also expected to encourage the public to stay active and enjoy cycling again during the pandemic while continuing to comply with health protocols. (Public Relations KAI)
