RT-PCR Validity for Long-Distance Train Travel Extended to a Maximum of 3x24 Hours
The validity period of a negative RT-PCR test certificate required for Long-Distance Train travel has been extended from a maximum of 2x24 hours to a maximum of 3x24 hours before departure.
KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus said that this change follows the issuance of the Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 92 of 2021 concerning Amendments to Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 89 of 2021 on Guidelines for Domestic Travel by Railway Transportation During the COVID-19 Pandemic, dated 27 October 2021.
"In addition to a negative RT-PCR test result, customers may also continue to use a negative Rapid Antigen Test result taken within a maximum of 1x24 hours before the scheduled departure," said Joni.
Joni emphasized that KAI continues to ensure all customers strictly comply with health protocols and only allows passengers who meet the required travel conditions to board the train.
"KAI always follows and complies with government regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through railway transportation," Joni concluded.
The complete travel requirements for train passengers are as follows:
1. Long-Distance Train and Local Train passengers must present a COVID-19 vaccination card showing at least the first vaccine dose:
- Children under 12 years of age are exempt from the vaccination card requirement.
- Passengers with certain health conditions or comorbidities that prevent them from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine must provide a medical certificate issued by a government hospital stating that they have not received and/or are unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
2. Long-Distance Train passengers must present either:
- A negative RT-PCR test result taken within a maximum of 3x24 hours before the scheduled departure; or
- A negative Rapid Antigen Test result taken within a maximum of 1x24 hours before the scheduled departure.
3. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or family member, as verified by a Family Card (Kartu Keluarga).
To book train tickets, all passengers must enter their National Identity Number (NIK) in the identification field. This requirement applies to both adults and children to validate passengers' vaccination status and COVID-19 test records, as KAI has integrated the PeduliLindungi application with its boarding system.
While using KAI services, customers are required to comply with health protocols by wearing masks, washing their hands with soap and running water, maintaining physical distance, avoiding crowds, reducing unnecessary travel, avoiding group dining, and using hand sanitizer.
Passengers must also be in good health, showing no symptoms such as flu, runny nose, cough, loss of smell, diarrhea, or fever, and have a body temperature not exceeding 37.3 degrees Celsius.
Passengers are required to wear a three-layer cloth mask or a medical mask that covers both the nose and mouth. They are also not allowed to engage in one-way or two-way conversations either by telephone or in person throughout the journey. Eating and drinking are prohibited on trips lasting less than two hours, except for passengers who need to take medication for medical reasons where not doing so could endanger their health or safety.
