KAI Introduces Underpasses at Universitas Pancasila and Pasar Minggu Baru Stations to Improve Commuter Line Passenger Safety
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), together with KAI Commuter, has introduced underpasses at Universitas Pancasila Station and Pasar Minggu Baru Station to further improve the safety of Commuter Line passengers when transferring between platforms. The two underpasses were inaugurated by KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo, accompanied by Acting President Director of KAI Commuter Roppiq Lutzfi Azhar and their management teams at Universitas Pancasila Station on Wednesday (8 September).
"The construction of these underpasses is an implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2011 to support the development of Commuter Line services on the Greater Jakarta loop line," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo.
The underpasses at Universitas Pancasila Station and Pasar Minggu Baru Station were built with passenger safety and comfort as top priorities. Each underpass is 5 meters wide and 17 meters long. They are equipped with CCTV cameras, fans, lighting, and directional signage to provide a more comfortable experience for Commuter Line passengers.
For priority passengers, including persons with disabilities, pregnant women, sick passengers, and senior citizens, KAI has provided two priority elevators at each station to facilitate access to the underpasses.
Didiek said that the construction of these underpasses reflects KAI Group's commitment to delivering higher-quality services, particularly for passengers with disabilities. Before the underpasses were available, passengers had to cross the railway tracks to move between platforms. This posed significant safety risks considering the high frequency of Commuter Line operations, with 356 train services operating daily in both directions between Jakarta and Depok or Bogor through these two stations.
"The presence of these underpasses is a positive step in creating greater value and improving services for Commuter Line passengers, whose numbers continue to grow each year," said Didiek.
From January to August 2021, Universitas Pancasila Station served an average of 2,174 passengers per day, while Pasar Minggu Baru Station served an average of 1,512 daily passengers. Before the pandemic, in February 2020, the average daily ridership reached 7,730 passengers at Universitas Pancasila Station and 4,622 passengers at Pasar Minggu Baru Station.
With the new underpass at Universitas Pancasila Station, passengers entering through Platform 1 (Universitas Pancasila Campus entrance) and traveling toward Jakarta must use the underpass to access Platform 2. Meanwhile, passengers entering through Platform 2 (Jl. Lenteng Agung entrance) and traveling toward Depok or Bogor must use the underpass to reach Platform 1.
At Pasar Minggu Baru Station, passengers entering through Platform 1 (Jl. Batu Merah entrance) and traveling toward Jakarta must use the underpass to access Platform 2. Conversely, passengers entering through Platform 2 (Jl. Rawajati Timur entrance) and traveling toward Depok or Bogor must use the underpass to reach Platform 1.
Didiek explained that the underpasses at Universitas Pancasila Station and Pasar Minggu Baru Station represent KAI's continued efforts to improve passenger safety and comfort, including for persons with disabilities. The goal is to provide equal service for all passengers while supporting the independence and inclusion of people with disabilities within KAI's transportation services.
The underpasses were also introduced as part of KAI's 76th Anniversary celebrations on 28 September 2021. This year's anniversary theme is "Serving Faster and Better."
"KAI is committed to moving faster in serving the public with better quality services. Even during the pandemic, railway services continue to improve in order to provide better experiences for our customers," Didiek concluded.
With the operation of these two underpasses, a total of 14 Commuter Line stations now feature underpass facilities. These stations are Cilebut, Bojonggede, Citayam, Depok, Depok Baru, Lenteng Agung, Pasar Minggu, Kalibata, Tebet, Manggarai, Pondok Ranji, Sudimara, Universitas Pancasila, and Pasar Minggu Baru.
