The Government has extended the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) until 30 August. Although several regions have changed their status from PPKM Level 4 to Level 3, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) confirms that the travel requirements for Long-Distance Trains and Local Trains remain unchanged as of 24 August 2021.

"KAI continues to refer to the Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 58 of 2021 and the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Circular Letter No. 17 of 2021. The travel requirements for Long-Distance Trains remain the same for both Level 3 and Level 4 areas, while assignment letters or similar documents are still required for Local Train passengers," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus.

The complete travel requirements for Long-Distance Train services are as follows:
1. Passengers must present a COVID-19 vaccination card showing at least the first dose. Passengers with specific health conditions or comorbidities that prevent them from receiving the vaccine must provide a doctor's certificate from a government hospital stating that they have not yet received and/or cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
2. Passengers must present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within a maximum of 2 × 24 hours before departure or a negative Rapid Test Antigen result taken within a maximum of 1 × 24 hours before departure.
3. Passengers under the age of 12 are temporarily not permitted to travel.

The travel requirements for Local Train services are as follows:
1. Services are available only for workers in the Essential and Critical Sectors, proven by a Worker Registration Certificate (STRP), another certificate issued by the relevant local government, or an assignment letter from the employer.
2. Passengers are not required to present a vaccination card or a negative RT-PCR or Rapid Test Antigen result. However, random Rapid Test Antigen screening will be conducted for passengers at stations.

"The travel requirements for Long-Distance and Local Trains remain unchanged at this time. However, we are ready to implement any new regulations issued by the Government," Joni said.

KAI consistently enforces all train travel requirements. During the period of 17–23 August, KAI denied boarding to 3,439 prospective passengers who did not meet the required travel conditions, including passengers under 12 years of age and those who did not present a vaccination card or a valid negative RT-PCR or Rapid Test Antigen result.

"Passengers who do not meet the travel requirements will not be allowed to travel, and their tickets will be refunded in full," Joni added.

KAI recorded a total of 129,915 Long-Distance and Local Train passengers during the period of 17–23 August, with an average daily ridership of 18,559 passengers.

Compared to the previous week, 10–16 August 2021, which recorded an average of 17,757 daily passengers, the average number of Long-Distance and Local Train passengers during 17–23 August decreased by 4.3%.

To help accelerate the achievement of herd immunity, KAI has provided free vaccination services at 16 stations for passengers and the public. From 3 July to 23 August 2021, a total of 31,799 people received vaccinations at these stations.

Joni emphasized that KAI continues to consistently implement strict health protocols, both at stations and throughout the train journey.
