KAI Supports the Extension of PPKM to Help Curb the Spread of COVID-19
The Government has extended the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) until 6 September 2021. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) fully supports this policy as part of the effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
"We fully support all government policies in handling COVID-19. We are also optimistic that the Government will soon overcome the pandemic, so we hope the new normal period will arrive soon and transportation services can continue to grow," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus.
To support the Government's efforts to accelerate herd immunity, KAI Group has contributed by providing 25 stations as free vaccination sites for passengers and the public. From 3 July to 30 August 2021, a total of 48,057 people received vaccinations at these stations.
KAI also supports the Government's plan to implement the PeduliLindungi application as a travel requirement for train passengers to further enhance passenger safety. At present, KAI is still awaiting detailed regulations from the Government regarding its implementation for railway services.
Nevertheless, since 23 July 2021, KAI has integrated the PeduliLindungi application with its boarding system to help validate passengers' health documents and streamline the boarding process.
KAI recorded a total of 156,797 Long-Distance and Local Train passengers during the period of 24–30 August 2021, with an average daily ridership of 22,400 passengers.
This represents a 20.7% increase compared to the previous week, 17–23 August 2021, which recorded a total of 129,873 passengers, or an average of 18,553 passengers per day.
"KAI consistently enforces travel requirements for train passengers. Only passengers who meet all requirements are allowed to board," Joni emphasized.
During the period of 24–30 August, KAI denied boarding to 2,474 prospective passengers who did not meet the required travel conditions. Most were denied because they were under 12 years of age, did not present a valid negative RT-PCR or Rapid Test Antigen result, or did not have a vaccination card.
As of 31 August 2021, the travel requirements for Long-Distance and Local Train services remained unchanged. KAI continued to follow Ministry of Transportation Circular Letter No. 58 of 2021 and COVID-19 Handling Task Force Circular Letter No. 17 of 2021. The requirements for Long-Distance Train travel in Level 3 and Level 4 areas remained the same, while assignment letters or equivalent documents were still required for Local Train services.
The travel requirements for Long-Distance Trains are as follows:
1. Passengers must present a COVID-19 vaccination card showing at least the first dose. Passengers with specific health conditions or comorbidities that prevent them from receiving the vaccine must provide a doctor's certificate from a government hospital stating that they have not yet received and/or cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
2. Passengers must present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within a maximum of 2 × 24 hours before departure, or a negative Rapid Test Antigen result taken within a maximum of 1 × 24 hours before departure.
3. Passengers under the age of 12 are temporarily not permitted to travel.
The travel requirements for Local Trains are as follows:
1. Services are available only for workers in the Essential and Critical Sectors, proven by a Worker Registration Certificate (STRP), another certificate issued by the relevant local government, or an assignment letter from the employer.
2. Passengers are not required to present a vaccination card or a negative RT-PCR or Rapid Test Antigen result. However, random Rapid Test Antigen screening will be conducted at stations.
"The travel requirements for Long-Distance and Local Trains remain unchanged at this time. However, we are fully prepared to implement any new regulations issued by the Government," Joni concluded. (Public Relations KAI)
