A total of 609,657 elderly customers benefited from reduced fares for long-distance train travel during January–June 2026.

This number increased by 31.09 percent compared to the same period in 2025, which reached 465,078 customers. Throughout 2025, a total of 1,062,368 elderly customers used the long-distance train fare reduction facility.

As the weekend approaches, train travel becomes part of the activities of many families. For elderly customers, travel can mean an opportunity to meet children and grandchildren, attend family events, undergo medical check-ups, return to their hometowns, or spend time with loved ones.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, explained that elderly customers are an important part of society who need to receive attention and respect in every journey. Becoming elderly is part of the life journey that everyone will experience if given a long life, so they need to be cared for, respected, and assisted in order to continue travelling comfortably and carry out activities independently.

According to Anne, the high number of beneficiaries shows that mobility needs remain present in old age. Trains help elderly customers stay connected with family, social environments, healthcare services, and various activities that give meaning to daily life. Behind every journey there are different stories, ranging from parents wanting to visit their children, grandparents wanting to meet their grandchildren, to customers who remain active in various activities. KAI wants to accompany their journeys with friendly and attentive service.

KAI provides a 20 percent fare reduction for customers aged 60 years or older for long-distance train travel in economy, business, and executive classes. This facility does not apply to Priority, Imperial, Panoramic, Luxury, and Compartment Suite services.

To obtain the fare reduction, customers need to register no later than two days before departure through Customer Service at stations that provide registration. Customers can register directly by bringing a valid original identity.

Registration can also be done by a representative by bringing the original identity as well as a passport photo or photograph of the elderly customer to be registered. After the data is registered, ticket booking can be made through station counters or the Access by KAI application.

Registration is done once as long as the reduction period is still valid. If the validity period has expired, customers need to register again. Through the Access by KAI application, customers can select the passenger type “Reduction”, enter the reduction number, choose the “Check Reduction” menu, ensure the customer’s name is correct, then continue the booking process.

All customers are encouraged to help create a comfortable journey for the elderly. Simple attention can be given by giving them priority in queues, allowing time when boarding and alighting from the train, helping when needed, and communicating politely and patiently.

Anne concluded by stating that the elderly have gone through a long life journey and contributed greatly to families and society. It is only right to provide travel spaces that make them feel appreciated, safe, and remain close to the people they love.
