PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) conducted a Roll Call for the 2022 Lebaran Transportation Force Deployment led by the Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at Gambir Station on Friday (22/4).

This force deployment roll call marks the first day of KAI's Lebaran Transportation command post period aimed at serving the public utilizing rail transportation. For this Lebaran Transportation period, KAI has designated a 22-day period running from D-10 to D+10 of Lebaran or from April 22, 2022, to May 13, 2022.

During this period, KAI prepares all resources to serve consumers to the maximum. KAI's readiness encompasses human resources, rolling stock, infrastructure, and other aspects related to overall KAI services. It is expected that with KAI's maximum preparations to welcome the holiday transport, the entire process of homecoming and return travel will run smoothly without hitches.

To enhance train travel safety during this Lebaran Transportation period, KAI has deployed 422 extra track inspectors, 293 extra level crossing guards, and 230 extra watchmen for disaster-prone areas. A total of 945 personnel are stationed to secure train journeys along the railway lines of Java and Sumatra, monitoring for any track obstructions or extraordinary operational accidents (PLH) that could disrupt train travel.

As for security measures for train service users, KAI has prepared 3,041 security personnel consisting of 1,371 Polsuska (Railway Police) officers and 1,670 security guards. These security officers will conduct security enforcement onboard trains and at stations, as well as execute mobile patrols along railway lines prone to criminal acts. In addition, the security personnel will continue to enforce health protocols for all customers at stations and during journeys.

“In line with the mandates given by the President, the Minister of Transportation, and the Minister of SOEs, KAI—as one of the primary national transportation modes for the Lebaran homecoming—is committed to ensuring that the homecoming journeys proceed safely, smoothly, and full of joy,” said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo.

Didiek emphasized that safety and security are the top priorities. KAI continuously performs periodic checks on disaster-prone spots, stays proactive in resolving potential hazards, ensures the availability and functionality of all emergency response equipment, and increases the guarding of unauthorized level crossings through active coordination to optimize all stakeholders, including the surrounding community.

In addition, KAI consistently enhances service quality for customers from the moment they enter the station area, onboard the trains, up to the exit points of their destination stations. KAI will continuously maintain the cleanliness of station areas, passenger waiting rooms, toilets, and train cars to provide comfort to customers.

KAI also strictly implements health protocols as mandated by the government under the Ministry of Transportation SE No. 49 of 2022. KAI has provided adequate handwashing facilities, hand sanitizers, body temperature measurements, and mask enforcement. Furthermore, KAI swiftly and responsively anticipates crowds within station areas, including providing antigen testing and vaccination services at stations in collaboration with the TNI/Polri and the Health Office.

The entire ranks of KAI, from staff to top management, will man the Lebaran Transportation command posts to ensure that services and health protocol implementations at stations and throughout the journeys run well.

For this 2022 Lebaran Transportation, there are a total of 4,552 Long-Distance Train journeys with a seating capacity reaching 2,557,612 seats. As of April 22, KAI has sold 1,284,413 Long-Distance Train tickets, or 50% of the total available tickets.

"Through meticulous preparation, we hope that rail transportation during this Lebaran Transportation period can run safely, smoothly, and under control. We also urge the public to get their booster shots immediately so that train journeys remain healthy and comfortable during this Lebaran Transportation period," Didiek concluded.

Previously, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated that public enthusiasm for mudik is very high this year. Therefore, all personnel must carefully manage passenger movements and ensure that health protocols and travel regulations remain enforced, while avoiding queues that could potentially cause passenger accumulation.

“Give a smile with sympathetic body language when checking whether passengers have received their booster vaccine, or when reminding them to be disciplined with health protocols. Do it firmly, yet remain humanis, welcoming, and friendly,” the Minister of Transportation explained.
