
KAI Signs 2022 Economy Train PSO and Pioneer Train Subsidy Contracts
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has signed the 2022 Public Service Obligation (PSO) contract for Economy Class trains and the 2022 Pioneer Train subsidy contract with the Ministry of Transportation.
Under the contract, the Ministry of Transportation has allocated a budget of Rp3.237 trillion, consisting of Rp3.051 trillion for the Economy Train PSO and Rp186.7 billion for Pioneer Train subsidies.
President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Didiek Hartantyo and Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), Zulfikri, signed the 2022 Public Service Obligation (PSO) and Pioneer Train Subsidy Assignment Contract, witnessed by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi.
The signing ceremony was carried out by KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo and Director General of Railways Zulfikri, witnessed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/1).
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo expressed his gratitude and highest appreciation for the support provided by the Ministry of Transportation, particularly the Directorate General of Railways, which has supported Kereta Api Indonesia's operations through government compensation in the form of PSO funding and Pioneer Train subsidies.
"KAI is committed to carrying out this assignment to the best of our ability in accordance with the mandate entrusted to us. KAI will consistently provide excellent services through reliable rolling stock, facilities, and customer service that meet the Minimum Service Standards stipulated in Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 63 of 2019," he said.
KAI will carry out the assignment from 1 January to 31 December 2022 based on Minister of Transportation Decree No. KM 250 of 2021 concerning the assignment to KAI to implement the Public Service Obligation for Economy Class passenger railway services for the 2022 Fiscal Year. The PSO covers Long-Distance Trains, Medium-Distance Trains, Lebaran Trains, Short-Distance Trains, Diesel Rail Trains (KRD), the Jabodetabek Commuter Line (KRL), and the Yogyakarta Commuter Line (KRL).
Meanwhile, based on Minister of Transportation Decree No. KM 249 of 2021 concerning the assignment to KAI to provide Pioneer Train services for the 2022 Fiscal Year, KAI will operate the Cut Meutia Pioneer Train (Kuta Blang – Krueng Geukeuh round trip), Lembah Anai Pioneer Train (Minangkabau International Airport – Kayu Tanam round trip), Minangkabau Ekspres Pioneer Train (Pulau Aie – Minangkabau International Airport round trip), South Sumatra LRT Pioneer Service (Airport – DJKA round trip), and the Bathara Kresna Pioneer Train (Purwosari – Wonogiri round trip).
The signing of the PSO and Pioneer Train contracts awarded to KAI will provide greater value to the public by delivering railway services that are increasingly reliable, efficient, and affordable. It will also help KAI accelerate the company's recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a decline in passenger numbers for rail transportation services.
"The signing of the Economy Train PSO and Pioneer Train subsidy contracts is a tangible demonstration of the government's commitment to serving the public through Indonesia's railway services. We hope this agreement will provide benefits for people travelling by train during the pandemic," said Didiek.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the budget allocation had gone through a lengthy discussion process with KAI and was determined selectively to ensure that it is well targeted and truly benefits the public.
"We want to provide convenience, certainty, and safety for railway passengers. Therefore, safety standards and excellent service must always be fulfilled," said Minister Budi Karya.
Furthermore, Minister Budi Karya Sumadi reiterated that the allocation process had gone through extensive discussions with KAI and was carried out selectively to ensure that the funding reaches the right beneficiaries and delivers real benefits to the community.
"We want to provide convenience, certainty, and safety for railway passengers. Therefore, safety standards and excellent service must always be fulfilled," said Minister Budi Karya.
