Indonesia's transition toward greener transportation is moving forward, and KAI is ready to be part of the journey. Starting July 1, 2026, the company has confirmed that all diesel locomotives and power-generator cars are fully prepared to operate using B50 Biodiesel, supporting the Government's national energy transition initiative. The rollout is backed by comprehensive technical testing and strengthened operational safety standards to ensure reliable, safe, and comfortable services for passengers.

The implementation follows the Government's B50 Biodiesel mandate, which officially takes effect on July 1, 2026. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has also introduced a three-month transition period to facilitate stock adjustments and the gradual shift toward full B50 adoption.

According to KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba, the company is committed to supporting Indonesia's renewable energy agenda by ensuring that its diesel fleet is fully prepared for the transition.

KAI fully supports the Government's B50 Biodiesel mandate. All of our diesel locomotives and rolling stock have completed the necessary technical validation and operational safety preparations, ensuring they are ready to operate reliably with B50.

KAI's readiness has been reinforced through joint technical validation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The testing program was designed to evaluate how B50 performs under real railway operating conditions for both locomotives and power-generator cars.

Engine performance, combustion stability, fuel consumption, and critical components were closely monitored on locomotives to ensure optimal reliability during daily operations.

Meanwhile, power-generator cars underwent comprehensive testing covering generator performance, fuel efficiency, emissions, filter conditions, and operational durability to maintain a stable onboard electricity supply and enhance passenger comfort.

Introducing B50 requires careful technical preparation. That's why we continue to conduct testing, monitoring, and evaluations to ensure the transition fully meets railway operational safety standards.

Beyond operational readiness, the adoption of B50 reflects KAI's broader commitment to Indonesia's energy transition. Increasing the use of biodiesel is expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while contributing to lower transportation-related emissions.

KAI has already gained valuable experience through the gradual implementation of B35 and B40 Biodiesel across its diesel operations. That experience provides a strong foundation for a safe, smooth, and well-managed transition to B50.

We are fully prepared to implement B50 in line with the Government's policy. By ensuring every diesel fleet is ready, KAI remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and comfortable journeys while supporting a more sustainable future for rail transportation.
