Earth Day 2026 is a fitting time to reflect on how our daily commutes can positively impact the planet. The KAI Group recorded remarkable growth in ridership, serving 128,055,072 customers from January to March 2026, a 9.97% increase compared to last year. This figure demonstrates that trains are increasingly becoming the preferred choice for people seeking energy-efficient travel while supporting emissions control in the transportation sector.

Your choice to travel by train directly helps the earth breathe easier. For example, emissions from long-distance train travel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday of 2026 were recorded as significantly lower than those from private vehicles for the same distance. KAI is also committed to transitioning to cleaner energy, including the use of B40 biodiesel in all locomotives since February 2025 and is now preparing to develop B50. Furthermore, solar energy has been harnessed through solar power plants at 92 locations to support daily operational needs.

Innovation for a greener future continues to be accelerated through the electrification program for strategic routes, such as Rangkasbitung–Merak, as well as the development of the Cikarang–Cikampek and Bogor–Cigombong lines. These steps are being taken to increase capacity and travel frequency so you don't have to wait long for your journey. KAI is also starting to explore future technologies such as the Battery Electric Multiple Unit (BEMU) to create operations with minimal local emissions.

Your comfort onboard the train is also a major focus through a major modernization program for 151 locomotives and 328 trains. Through the Access by KAI app, you can even instantly check the estimated carbon footprint of each trip you take. Time reliability remains a priority, as evidenced by the 99.84% on-time departure rate for passenger trains throughout the beginning of this year, ensuring your daily productivity remains high.

KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, emphasized that this transformation is the company's way of responding to the challenges of future mobility. KAI wants to ensure that every trip you take provides tangible benefits, both in terms of service quality and a positive impact on environmental sustainability. Through a continuously strengthened transportation system, railways are here to support the nation's progress in line with efforts to preserve our beloved earth.
