Jakarta has a new face in public transportation. After years of serving as one of the capital's busiest railway stations, Tanah Abang Station has been transformed with a fresh, modern appearance.

The station was officially inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday, November 4, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of Indonesia's urban railway system. The project is expected to become a turning point in improving mobility across the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area.

Located in the heart of the city, the new station has been designed with a modern, inclusive, and customer-oriented concept. More than just a place for passengers to board and disembark, the new Tanah Abang Station now serves as a key intermodal transportation hub, connecting multiple Commuter Line routes and enhancing the overall transit experience.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin described the station as a symbol of the company's customer-focused transformation in public transportation services.

"The station's design has been created to improve passenger flow and strengthen intermodal connectivity. Its impact on urban mobility will be significant," he said.

With a new capacity of up to 380,000 passengers per day, the station is expected to meet the growing transportation demands of the capital. Even today, more than 210,000 passengers use Tanah Abang Station daily for boarding, alighting, and transfers, making it one of the busiest railway stations in the Greater Jakarta region.

President Prabowo also reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding the national railway network.

"Railways will remain one of our top priorities. We will add 30 new trainsets with an investment of nearly Rp5 trillion. When it comes to serving the people, I have no hesitation. Railways are a source of pride for all of us," he said.

The modernization of Tanah Abang Station also demonstrates the successful collaboration between multiple government agencies and stakeholders, working together to create a more integrated, efficient, and environmentally friendly public transportation system.

With its new look, Tanah Abang Station is no longer just a place to catch a train—it has become a symbol of Jakarta's future: modern, inclusive, and built for sustainable urban mobility.
