Airport Rail Services Drive Yogyakarta–Madiun Economic Growth

The KAI Group continues to strengthen connectivity in the Yogyakarta and Madiun regions through the Airport Train services, the Adi Soemarmo Airport Rail Link (BIAS) and the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Rail Link. Both services play an important role in connecting airports with city centers, offering fast, reliable, and comfortable mobility for the public.

According to Anne Purba, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, airport rail services are not just a means of transportation, but also an economic driver that creates new opportunities across various regions. “From Yogyakarta to Madiun, airport rail services help people move more efficiently and productively,” she said.

Between January and September 2025, the Adi Soemarmo Airport Rail Link served 613,403 passengers. The highest spikes in ridership occurred during the Eid holiday period and other national holidays. Stations such as Solo Balapan, Sragen, and Solojebres became the busiest mobility points, reflecting growing public trust in punctual and environmentally friendly rail transportation.

Starting August 17, 2025, the BIAS line extension officially reached Caruban Station, expanding service coverage across 10 stations in Central and East Java. Ticket prices range from Rp7,000 to Rp40,000, and tickets can be easily purchased through the Access by KAI app.

The YIA Airport Rail Link also recorded strong performance, carrying 2.1 million passengers through September 2025—an increase of 3.74% compared to the previous year. With 50 daily trips, the service has become a preferred option for travelers seeking fast transportation without traffic congestion.
