KAI Inaugurates New Platform Building at Padang Station and Conducts Tree Planting to Enhance Passenger Services and Support Environmental Sustainability
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) officially inaugurated the new platform and modern passenger waiting area at Padang Station for passengers departing from and arriving at the station during the weekend (15/01/2022).
The inauguration ceremony was marked by a ribbon-cutting and the signing of a commemorative plaque by KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo, accompanied by KAI Commercial Director Dadan Rudiansyah and KAI Regional Division II West Sumatra Vice President Mohammad Arie Fathurrochman.
The new 1,540-square-metre facility features a new platform and a modern passenger waiting area equipped with air conditioning, a children's play area, modern restrooms, a prayer room, a health post, a nursing room, tenant spaces, and a spacious building capable of accommodating more than 500 passengers.
In addition, passengers travelling by private vehicle are provided with a 600-square-metre parking area, accommodating up to 30 cars and 50 motorcycles.
At present, the new platform building and waiting area are dedicated to serving passengers of the Minangkabau Ekspres train operating on the Pulau Aie – Padang – Minangkabau International Airport (return) route. In the future, the facility may also be used by other train services stopping at Padang Station.
"Regarding railway development in West Sumatra, we have initiated follow-up actions based on the visit of the Minister of Transportation and the Central Government's programmes, which we will soon implement in West Sumatra. Specifically for the Airport Rail platform, we hope and pray that the Minangkabau Ekspres will continue to grow alongside the new normal. We also hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will soon be overcome in Indonesia so that both air and rail transportation, as integrated modes of connectivity, can recover and the number of airport rail passengers will continue to increase," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo in his opening remarks.
Alongside the inauguration of the new platform and passenger waiting area, KAI also organised a tree-planting activity.
This initiative was carried out as part of KAI's efforts to continuously improve passenger services by implementing the concept of green and environmentally friendly railway stations.
The tree-planting programme forms part of the company's corporate responsibility initiatives to support environmental sustainability.
A station surrounded by greenery provides a cooler atmosphere while enhancing the appearance of the station.
KAI continues to promote greening initiatives at stations, office buildings, and other operational areas as part of the State-Owned Enterprises Green Indonesia Movement and as an expression of the company's commitment to protecting the environment. (Public Relations KAI)
