Bring Your Tumbler, Refill for Free! KAI Provides Drinking Water at 58 Stations
Bringing a reusable water bottle can be a practical choice for train passengers who want to refill their drinking water before continuing their journey. To support this need, free drinking-water facilities are available at dozens of stations, offering passengers an alternative while encouraging the use of reusable bottles.
From January to September 2026, a total of 43,959,327 passengers used long-distance and local train services operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI). This figure increased by 8.33% compared with the same period in 2025, when 40,578,525 passengers were recorded.
Amid this high level of travel activity, KAI has completed the installation of free drinking-water facilities at 58 stations. In total, 124 units are distributed across 70 service areas. Passengers can use these facilities according to their locations and the instructions provided at each station.
Stations equipped with these facilities include Gambir, Pasar Senen, Bekasi, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo Balapan, Madiun, Surabaya Gubeng, Malang, and Tanjungkarang.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that providing supporting facilities at stations is part of the company’s efforts to meet passengers’ needs while they wait for departures or prepare to continue their journeys. Passengers carrying reusable bottles can use the free drinking-water facilities when available at the stations they visit.
Beyond meeting passengers’ needs, these facilities also create opportunities to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles. The impact depends on passengers’ habits, including how often they use reusable bottles and refill them as an alternative to purchasing bottled drinks.
Through these facilities, KAI encourages more environmentally friendly travel habits. Reusing drinking bottles can help reduce the need for single-use packaging, while proper waste management and responsible use of the facilities continue to require collective support.
KAI continues to pay attention to passengers’ needs at stations, including by providing facilities that support travel comfort and more environmentally friendly habits. Passengers can ask station staff for information about the locations of free drinking-water facilities.
