Good news for those planning to travel by train. Starting September 7, 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is increasing capacity on several train services. This means more seats are available and customers have more options for traveling.

The additional train formations are available on several services, ranging from Executive Class to Economy Class. The rolling stock also varies, from Stainless Steel New Generation to New Image.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the additional train formations are based on public travel needs and operational conditions in the field.

“KAI continues to monitor customer needs and adjust service capacity according to operational conditions. With these additional train formations, customers have more travel options supported by more comfortable rolling stock,” said Anne.

So, which trains are getting additional formations?

One of them is KA 2B Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasarturi route. Starting September 7, this train will operate with 9 Executive Class cars using Stainless Steel New Generation rolling stock.

There are also KA 204 Tegal Bahari on the Pasarsenen–Tegal route, KA 203 Tegal Bahari on the Tegal–Pasarsenen route, and KA 164A Gumarang on the Pasarsenen–Surabaya Pasarturi route.

These three services now operate with 4 Executive Class cars and 7 Economy Class cars. All of them use Stainless Steel New Generation rolling stock.

Not only that, KA Gunung Jati is also getting additional capacity. Its four services, namely KA 117B Cirebon–Gambir, KA 118B Gambir–Semarang Tawang, KA 119B Semarang Tawang–Gambir, and KA 120B Gambir–Cirebon, now have 5 Executive Class cars and 5 Economy Class cars.

For Gunung Jati services, the rolling stock used is New Image for both Executive Class and Economy Class.

With this additional capacity, customers have more options when looking for train services that suit their schedules and needs. KAI is also ensuring the readiness of rolling stock, infrastructure, and operations before the services are operated.

Now, before heading out, don’t forget to check the schedule and ticket availability first. The latest travel information can be monitored through the Access by KAI app, KAI’s official website, and other official KAI information channels.

There is one more thing to keep in mind. Amid volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau, customers are encouraged to pay attention to their health during the journey. For those who are sensitive to volcanic ash or air quality, wearing a mask may be an option.

So, are you ready to travel by train? Don’t forget to arrive at the station early, check the travel information, and follow staff instructions so that your journey remains safe, comfortable, and smooth.
