Starting 1 September 2023, the South Gate at Gambir Station will exclusively serve Face Recognition Boarding. Manual boarding will be available at the North Gate of Gambir Station. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta once again encourages train passengers to register for the Face Recognition service through the Access by KAI application or directly with staff at the South Gate of Gambir Station.

The Face Recognition Boarding Gate is a boarding facility located at the ticket inspection area, equipped with cameras that identify and validate a passenger's identity through facial recognition. The facial data is integrated with the passenger's ticket information in KAI's boarding system. This makes the boarding process more practical, as passengers only need to scan their face at the Face Recognition Gate without showing their ID card or printed ticket. Currently, there are four Face Recognition machines installed at the South Gate of Gambir Station.

Passengers only need to register once, either through the Access by KAI application or at the station. The Access application is the new version of the KAI Access app, and customers simply need to update the application. One of the new features available is Face Recognition Registration. Passengers can register by selecting the "Account" menu, then choosing "Face Recognition Registration," and following the instructions provided.

At Gambir Station, registration can also be completed through the Check-In Counter (CIC) machine or with assistance from dedicated service staff located in the South Hall area. Registration cannot be completed by a representative. Passengers only need to bring their electronic ID card (e-KTP). The registration process involves tapping the e-KTP on the card reader and placing either the right or left index finger on the fingerprint scanner integrated into the e-KTP reader. Passengers who cannot register using an e-KTP, such as children or those with damaged e-KTPs, do not need to worry, as registration can also be completed with the assistance of the available service staff.

Registration only needs to be completed once and remains valid indefinitely, including when traveling through other stations equipped with Face Recognition Boarding Gates, such as Bandung Station, Yogyakarta Station, Surabaya Gubeng Station, Malang Station, and Solo Balapan Station. Passengers who have previously registered and used this service at any of these stations do not need to register again.

Once registered, passengers no longer need to print a boarding pass. They can proceed directly to the Face Recognition Boarding Gate when boarding is open. Simply position your face in front of the scanner, and if the ticket information, identity, and other boarding requirements have been successfully verified, the gate will automatically open. The facial scanning and verification process is completed very quickly, making boarding more convenient while helping reduce queues during the boarding process.

The implementation of the Face Recognition Boarding Gate is expected to make train travel even more convenient by providing a faster and more practical boarding experience without the need for manual document verification. These improvements are designed to enhance passenger comfort throughout the entire train journey.
