PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has consistently implemented its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs as part of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for Indonesia initiative.

Throughout 2021, KAI distributed Rp19,058,383,468 through its TJSL programs. The funds were allocated to Environmental Development, Partnership Programs, and Community Relations initiatives.

KAI President Director distributed free basic food packages to station porters during the month of Ramadan.

"KAI has consistently provided TJSL assistance to communities throughout 2021, a year marked by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and several natural disasters. The TJSL programs carried out by KAI are part of the SOEs for Indonesia initiative," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo.

During 2021, KAI distributed Rp8.7 billion for 239 activities under its Environmental Development Program. These included KAI Sehat Sejahtera (health improvement assistance and vaccination acceleration), KAI Pling (support for public infrastructure development and environmental conservation), KAI Sar-i (assistance for places of worship), KAI DungMas (assistance for natural disaster victims), KAI Sahabat Difabel dan Sosial Masyarakat (support for people with disabilities and social welfare), and KAI Mengajar (education assistance).

Through the Environmental Development Program, KAI also provided disaster relief assistance to communities affected by floods and landslides in several regions, including Sumedang, Garut, Kaligawe, and Nganjuk, as well as earthquakes in Malang and the eruptions of Mount Sinabung and Mount Semeru.

In addition, KAI supported environmental conservation efforts in several regions by providing greening assistance in Temanggung, Ogan Komering Ulu, Batu Bara, Bandung, and Jakarta through its 2021 Environmental Development Program.

"In 2021, KAI planted 28,000 trees in various regions as part of the SOEs Green Indonesia program," said Didiek.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, KAI continued to provide TJSL assistance to support pandemic response efforts. This included support for SOE-led vaccination centers to accelerate vaccination programs, donations of medical equipment for COVID-19 prevention and treatment, basic food assistance for families affected by COVID-19, support for quarantine facilities, and assistance for public health laboratories.

KAI also played an active role in supporting the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Through its Partnership Program, KAI distributed Rp7 billion to 781 MSME partners in 2021. The beneficiaries represented various sectors, including manufacturing, services, trade, fisheries, agriculture, livestock, and others.

In addition to providing business capital financing, KAI also offered mentoring and training conducted by experts in their respective fields. The training covered production processes, product packaging, marketing, and other business development topics.

"MSMEs are among the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, KAI supports the sustainability of MSMEs through partnership funding while encouraging them to move to the next level," said Didiek.

The term "move to the next level" refers to increasing production capacity, improving business turnover, involving surrounding communities in production activities, expanding product marketing to other cities and overseas markets, obtaining national and international certifications, increasing financing capacity, and creating more employment opportunities.

Through its Community Relations program, KAI also organized public awareness campaigns on railway safety and the prevention of harassment and violence against women. These campaigns were conducted 183 times in collaboration with railway enthusiast communities across KAI's operational areas.

"We regularly conduct railway crossing safety campaigns to encourage road users to obey traffic signs and always give priority to trains at level crossings," said Didiek.

In addition to these awareness campaigns, KAI also provided sports facilities, worship facilities, and COVID-19 prevention equipment to schools, places of worship, and other public facilities located near railway lines.

"We hope that all TJSL assistance provided throughout 2021 will bring meaningful benefits to the wider community. Going forward, KAI will continue implementing its TJSL programs to contribute to the development of Indonesia," said Didiek.

KAI's commitment to the nation through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs has received recognition from various institutions. In 2021, KAI received several CSR awards, including the Top CSR Awards 2021 for Top Leader on CSR Commitment, Top CSR Award 2021 #Star 4, Top CSR Awards 2021 – Environmental Program, Golden Champion in the Corporate Social Responsibility Program category for State-Owned Enterprises, The Best Indonesia Green Awards 2021, and Best State-Owned Transportation Company for MSME Development through the Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL).
