School Holiday Gets More Affordable: 1.1 Million Train Seats with 30% Discount Sold Out Quickly!
This year’s school holiday season has once again seen a surge in people traveling by train. From Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Solo, to Sukabumi, many are choosing trains as their travel companion to hometowns, tourist destinations, and educational cities.
This momentum has been supported by the government’s 30% Transportation Discount program through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, distributed via PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). As of June 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM WIB, a total of 1,101,788 seats have been booked out of a quota of 1,174,624 seats for the departure period of June 20–July 5, 2026, equivalent to 93.80% of the available capacity. This means 72,836 seats remain for people who still wish to take advantage of this opportunity.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of KAI, Anne Purba, explained that this program serves as government support to help the public manage their school holiday travel at a more affordable cost. The program provides opportunities for families, students, and workers to plan their trips earlier, while also offering more options for safe, comfortable, and well-organized train journeys.
Discount ticket bookings increased toward the weekend. The highest number of bookings was recorded on June 28, 2026, with 90,366 customers, followed by June 27 with 87,175 customers, and June 26 with 85,397 customers. This data shows that weekends are the most preferred time for people to start their school holiday trips.
Overall, the number of passengers during the school holiday period from June 20 to July 5, 2026, has reached 2,745,605 people, consisting of 1,098,290 discount ticket users and 1,647,315 non-discount ticket users. Discount passengers contributed 40% of the total travel during this period.
