30% Discount Sold Out! 1.3 Million Customers Enjoy Affordable Tickets During the 2026 School Holiday

A total of 1,303,191 Commercial Economy train customers were recorded to have utilized the 30% discounted fare from the government during the school holiday period from June 20 to July 5, 2026, according to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero).

In total, during the school holiday period, KAI served 3,451,031 customers. Of this number, Commercial Economy train customers who utilized the 30% discount reached 37.8%, while other customers were recorded at 2,147,840 customers.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, explained that this achievement shows that trains have become a travel choice for the public during school holidays. Customers use train services for tourism, returning to their hometowns, visiting family, as well as fulfilling intercity and agglomeration mobility needs. The high interest from customers serves as a reminder that services must become increasingly accessible, comfortable to use, and able to meet public travel needs.

Compared to the school holiday period in 2025, customers utilizing the 30% discount increased from 1,173,612 customers to 1,303,191 customers. In total, the number of customers served by KAI also increased from 3,326,281 customers to 3,451,031 customers.

KAI recorded that the peak of customers using the discount occurred on July 5, 2026, with 94,977 customers. On the same date, the total number of customers served by KAI reached 254,939 customers, becoming the highest daily volume during the school holiday period.

In terms of departure stations, the highest number of discounted fare customers was recorded at Pasar Senen Station with 136,136 customers, followed by Yogyakarta with 87,836 customers, Semarang Poncol with 69,952 customers, Semarang Tawang with 64,451 customers, and Surabaya Pasarturi with 51,887 customers. Meanwhile, destination stations with the highest number of discounted fare customers were Pasar Senen with 127,571 customers, Yogyakarta with 89,801 customers, Semarang Poncol with 67,181 customers, Semarang Tawang with 63,695 customers, and Surabaya Pasarturi with 54,567 customers.

Favorite routes for discounted fare customers during the school holidays were Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen with 17,726 customers, followed by Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan with 16,913 customers, Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta with 16,029 customers, Solo Balapan–Semarang Tawang with 15,398 customers, and Semarang Tawang–Solo Balapan with 15,383 customers.

As for trains with the highest number of discounted fare customers, they were Joglosemarkerto Train with 67,556 customers, Ambarawa Ekspres Train with 67,298 customers, Kaligung Train with 55,256 customers, Pangrango Train with 49,085 customers, and Kamandaka Train with 48,921 customers.

Anne stated that travel data during the school holiday period serves as evaluation material for KAI to understand customer demand patterns. KAI will continue to improve services, ranging from fleet readiness, cleanliness, travel information, ease of digital access, to handling customer complaints. Complaints, suggestions, and customer experiences are important inputs to continuously improve services, so that customers feel safer, more comfortable, and assisted from planning their journey to arriving at their destination.

KAI also appreciates customers who have provided feedback through official service channels or station staff. Two-way communication with customers is an important part of maintaining service quality, especially during peak travel periods such as school holidays. KAI wants customers to feel that traveling by train is increasingly well-organized, informative, and enjoyable, so that customer trust becomes a driving force for KAI to continue improving and delivering services that better meet public needs.
