The signing of this cooperation agreement aims to secure company assets, which are also state assets, so they can be optimized.
The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out by KAI Director of Safety and Security John Robertho; Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University (FIB UNS) Prof. Dr. Warto, M.Hum; and Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Sajidan, M.Si, witnessed by KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo at the Dr. Prakosa Building UNS, Surakarta, Friday (27/5).
The scope of this cooperation agreement, which is under the umbrella of the 2017 MoU between KAI and UNS, consists of Research and Development in the Field of Historical Science in an Effort to Secure KAI Assets. This includes providing training on the history of KAI asset ownership; searching for and collecting data and/or documents, statements, or evidence regarding the history of KAI asset ownership; providing opinions, considerations, analyses, and/or studies regarding the history of KAI asset ownership; providing assistance in coordination processes, discussion meetings, encounters, and presentations with stakeholders and other related parties regarding the history of KAI assets; and providing witness and/or expert support regarding the history of KAI asset ownership.
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that as a company with a long history, KAI, as an SOE whose shares are 100% owned by the Indonesian government, has an obligation to safeguard various company assets so they can be utilized optimally for various corporate and state interests.
“This collaborative step between KAI and FIB UNS aligns with one of the SOE priority programs, which is increasing investment by optimizing company assets based on Good Corporate Governance. We hope this Cooperation Agreement signing will serve as a mutual guideline between KAI and UNS in examining and tracing deeper into historical truth, specifically regarding the ownership of KAI assets to secure KAI assets scattered across all regions of Indonesia,” Didiek said.
KAI possesses Non-Railway Assets, which are assets not directly related to train travel operations, including land assets, company housing, and official office buildings. KAI's total Non-Railway Assets span approximately 270 million m², of which only 49% or around 131 million m² have been certified to date. KAI continues to strive to optimize its assets through certification and enforcement programs.
KAI is committed to continuously increasing the area of certified assets each year. The primary goal is to safeguard assets owned directly or indirectly by the state. Ultimately, this builds governance in optimizing KAI land to further increase value, whether through asset commercialization, station area development, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) area construction, or other developments.
“Data and information support from the results of the studies to be conducted under this cooperation is expected to be beneficial for both parties, to always work together in safeguarding all assets owned by the company. Consequently, it can continuously provide benefits and added value for KAI and the wider community by implementing good corporate governance,” Didiek concluded.
