Mobility in the Manggarai area continues to move on a massive scale every day. As one of the key points in the daily journeys of people across Greater Jakarta, the area is now seen not only as a place for train transfers but also as having the potential to develop into a more integrated center of urban activity.

With customer activity reaching around 162,000 people per day and approximately 700 to 750 train services operating daily, Manggarai plays an important role in connecting people’s journeys. This high level of mobility has become one of the reasons behind the need to develop an area that can provide better connectivity for public transportation users.

Seeing this potential, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, continues to develop the Manggarai Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) area in South Jakarta. The development is aimed at strengthening the connection between the station, pedestrian access, intermodal transfers, public spaces, residential areas, and various urban activities.

The development of the Manggarai area does not only focus on the station as a place where passengers board and disembark. The surrounding area also plays an important role in creating a more connected journey, from pedestrian access to easier transfers between different modes of transportation.

Manggarai’s significant role can also be seen through Commuter Line customer activity. In 2023, the number of KRL customers entering through the gates at Manggarai Station reached 5,142,739 and increased to 5,575,711 customers in 2024, growing by approximately 8.42 percent. In 2025, the number of customers reached 5,456,309, while from January to June 2026, it had already reached 2,716,932 customers.

In addition to being an important point for KRL users, Manggarai also plays a role in providing connectivity to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line served 1,970,531 customers in 2023, increasing to 2,242,536 customers in 2024 and rising again to 2,346,934 customers in 2025.

Specifically at Manggarai Station, a total of 230,314 customers used the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line from January to June 2026. These figures further demonstrate Manggarai’s position as one of the key hubs in Jakarta’s transportation network and its surrounding areas.

Overall, the Manggarai TOD area covers approximately 129 hectares, with around 64 hectares belonging to KAI. Its development is being carried out gradually to strengthen integration between the KRL Commuter Line, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line, TransJakarta, Manggarai Terminal, and the planned Jakarta LRT development.

With more transportation modes becoming connected, the Manggarai area is expected to provide a smoother and more efficient travel experience for the public. Intermodal transfers, pedestrian access, public spaces, and various activities within the area are all part of the direction for the Manggarai TOD development.

This development is also part of KAI’s efforts to make it easier for people to use public transportation in their daily activities. The growth of mobility in Manggarai is expected to go hand in hand with improvements in the quality of connectivity throughout the area.

Going forward, Manggarai is being prepared not only as one of the busiest stations in Indonesia but also as an area capable of connecting various modes of transportation and community activities within a more integrated, efficient, and comfortable ecosystem.
