Public enthusiasm for travel during the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia continues to grow ahead of August 17, 2026. As of August 16, 2026, at 09:30 WIB, a total of 16,913 discounted long-distance commercial economy-class train tickets with a 17% discount had been sold. The promotion can still be used for travel on August 17, 2026, while the promotional ticket allocation remains available.

The Independence Day period is one of the moments when people travel for various purposes, including meeting family, traveling for leisure, and taking part in different activities in their destination cities. The 17% discount provides an additional option for people to plan their journeys according to their needs and personal schedules.

The increase in promotional ticket bookings has taken place alongside high public mobility during the Independence Day long weekend. The two figures come from different records, as the 17% discount promotion specifically applies to long-distance commercial economy-class trains departing on August 17, 2026.

The 17% promotion has its own scope, while long weekend travel includes more services and departure dates, including PSO Economy Class trains that also offer affordable fares. Both figures reflect strong public enthusiasm for travel during the Independence Day period.

The 17% discount program can still be booked through Access by KAI and KAI’s official ticket sales channels while the promotional fare allocation remains available.

During the same period, bookings for KAI-operated long-distance and local train services also continued. As of August 16, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, a total of 706,908 tickets had been booked for departures from August 14 to 17, 2026, out of a capacity of 658,671 seats. The booking occupancy rate reached 107.32%.

The number of bookings may continue to increase as ticket sales for departures on August 16 and 17, 2026, are still ongoing.

Based on departure dates, 190,359 tickets were recorded for travel on August 14, 202.326 tickets for August 15, 162,160 tickets for August 16, and 152,063 tickets for August 17, 2026.

The highest number of bookings so far was recorded for departures on August 15. After that, travel volumes remained high until Independence Day, showing that public travel was relatively well distributed throughout the Independence Day long weekend.

Travel activity was also reflected at several departure stations. Pasar Senen recorded the highest booking volume with 48,540 tickets, followed by Yogyakarta with 46,327 tickets, Gambir with 45,428 tickets, Semarang Tawang with 29,204 tickets, and Surabaya Gubeng with 25,528 tickets.

In terms of travel routes, Yogyakarta–Gambir recorded the highest number of bookings with 10,176 tickets. This was followed by Gambir–Yogyakarta with 9,977 tickets, Gambir–Semarang Tawang with 7,361 tickets, Semarang Tawang–Gambir with 7,147 tickets, and Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen with 6,907 tickets.

Among commercial train services, Joglosemarkerto recorded the highest booking volume during the August 14–17, 2026 period with 17,721 tickets. It was followed by Sancaka with 15,095 tickets, Pangrango with 14,995 tickets, Ambarawa Ekspres with 14,902 tickets, and Parahyangan with 14,328 tickets.

The distribution of bookings shows that travel during the Independence Day long weekend is taking place across various routes. High mobility is seen on major intercity routes as well as on several regional services. KAI continues to adjust its service readiness to meet these travel patterns.

An occupancy rate above 100% is possible because of dynamic passenger travel patterns, with passengers boarding and alighting at intermediate stations. On a single route, one seat can be used again by another passenger after the previous passenger has left the train.

On August 17, 2026, people can also enjoy an Rp8 fare on LRT Jabodebek and most Commuter Line services.

KAI encourages passengers to recheck their departure schedules, departure stations, and ticket availability before traveling. Travel information is available through Access by KAI and KAI’s official channels via Contact Center KAI 121 or the official WhatsApp service at 0811-2223-3121.
