VP Public Relations of KAI Joni Martinus said, although the pandemic is still ongoing, KAI continues to provide benefits to the wider community through the ongoing TJSL programs. KAI does not only focus on rising to recover the Passenger Transport and Goods Transport businesses, but also remains attentive to the community's environment in KAI's working areas.
“KAI consistently carries out its function through the TJSL program to provide benefits in the environmental, social, and economic fields. This provision of assistance is a form of KAI's commitment to achieving sustainable development goals,” said Joni.
In Semester I 2022, KAI's TJSL focused on tree planting, which is also a Ministry of BUMN program, namely the 1 million trees planting movement. Under Environmental Development TJSL, KAI provided Greening Nature Conservation Assistance for the Temanggung Mountain Belt in the form of 18,000 tree seedlings worth IDR 200 million. This tree seedling assistance serves as a means of environmental rehabilitation in the form of soil and water conservation, with planting locations on the slopes of Mount Sindoro, Mount Sumbing, and the slopes of Mount Prau, covering 11 sub-districts in Temanggung Regency. Up to Semester I 2022, KAI has planted 33,597 trees for the community through the KAI Green Indonesia program.
KAI handed over assistance in the form of 1 car unit for the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Central Java Province worth IDR 238 million. The additional operational vehicle unit for PMI is aimed at helping people who need assistance, especially during the Eid Transport moment. KAI also provided public facilities and infrastructure assistance in the form of 5 waste transport motorbike units to the Palembang City Government worth IDR 174 million. This assistance is a form of KAI's support to the community in creating a clean and comfortable environment.
In addition, other forms of assistance that KAI distributed during the Semester I 2022 period were basic food packages (sembako), support for houses of worship, and others. It is hoped that this assistance can provide sustainable benefits for the community.
In the remainder of 2022, KAI continues to distribute the programmed Environmental Development TJSL. The plan for Environmental Development TJSL in Semester II 2022 includes improving the quality of education through a scholarship program in collaboration with the BUMN Foundation, a skill improvement program through Sign Language Training for Frontliners, an assistance program in land conservation through tree planting, as well as a waste management development program.
“KAI has run various TJSL programs aligned with the priorities of sustainable development goals guided by the Regulation of the Minister of BUMN. The TJSL program is expected to support business activities that have a positive impact on social, environmental, and economic aspects so as to create Creating Shared Value,” concluded Joni.
