KAI Supports Environmental Conservation Through Tree Planting
As development continues to grow, it is important to balance it with environmental conservation, one of which is by increasing the number of green plants and trees in surrounding areas. Trees help create cleaner and fresher air, making the environment healthier. Many people have actively taken part in gardening and planting trees around their homes as one way to help protect the environment.
Environmental conservation is not only the responsibility of individuals. Companies also have an important role to play in supporting sustainability. This is demonstrated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) through its greening programme in the city of Semarang.
KAI donated 200 trees to support the greening of the West Flood Canal (Banjir Kanal Barat) area. The symbolic handover was carried out by Executive Vice President of KAI Operation Area 4 (Daop 4) Semarang, Wisnu Pramudyo, during the 2022 West Flood Canal Festival, held on Jalan Madukoro, West Flood Canal, Semarang, on Tuesday (29 March).
The West Flood Canal Festival is an annual event organised to attract more visitors to the West Flood Canal area. A variety of activities were held to entertain visitors, including compact acoustic music performances, senior citizen exercise sessions, traditional dance performances, tree planting, fashion shows, the *Semar Cakep* operetta, jet ski and rowing attractions, fruit and vegetable campaigns, MSME bazaars, river clean-up activities, and milk-drinking campaigns.
KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus said that the greening programme along the West Flood Canal reflects KAI's support for the Semarang City Government's efforts to make the city more attractive and beautiful.
In addition to Semarang, KAI continues to consistently implement greening programmes at stations, office buildings, and operational areas in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and many other cities. These initiatives support the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Green Indonesia Movement and reflect KAI's commitment to protecting the environment. From 2021 until 29 March 2022, KAI planted a total of 56,453 trees.
"We believe that planting trees provides many positive benefits, including cleaner air, reducing the impact of global warming, and absorbing air pollution. We hope that environmental conservation efforts through tree planting will continue, not only by KAI but also by all parties who are committed to protecting the environment and preserving our planet," Joni concluded.
