PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) provided assistance to communities affected by the disaster in Lumajang Regency on Sunday (5/12). Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, KAI donated three portable toilets and food aid packages, with a total assistance value of Rp60,000,000.

The TJSL program reflects the commitment of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to support communities affected by disasters across Indonesia and demonstrates the presence of SOEs for the nation.

"This assistance is KAI's expression of concern in helping respond to the Mount Semeru eruption disaster in Lumajang Regency," said KAI Executive Vice President Corporate Secretary Asdo Artriviyanto.

The assistance was handed over by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Deputy Executive Vice President of Daop 8 Surabaya, Mariyanto, to Cornellia Selvyana Ayoe, Disaster Assessment Officer of the Logistics Section at the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), represented by Aziz Wijaya as Head of the Disaster Management Operations Center (Pusdalops) of Malang City, at Malang City Hall on Sunday (5/12).

The assistance represents the first phase of KAI's relief efforts. Additional aid will be distributed in accordance with conditions and the needs of communities in the disaster-affected area.

KAI is also collaborating with the East Java SOE Disaster Response Task Force and coordinating with various stakeholders, including the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.

By providing portable toilets, KAI actively supports sanitation needs for communities living on the slopes of Mount Semeru, where many homes have been damaged by the eruption and are temporarily uninhabitable. The food aid packages include instant noodles, diapers, corned beef, biscuits, milk, and bottled drinking water for victims during the disaster response period.

"KAI will continue providing assistance in stages to support the acceleration of recovery efforts in the affected area," said Asdo.

Meanwhile, railway operations in East Java continue to run normally. Train drivers still have good visibility, and no railway lines have been disrupted by the Mount Semeru eruption.
