PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to strengthen connectivity between cities, urban areas, economic centers, airports, and regions through the KAI Group transportation ecosystem. From January to July 2026, the KAI Group served 307,860,743 customers, an increase of 8.32% compared with 284,202,884 customers during the same period in 2025. Growth was recorded across KAI's Long-Distance and Local Train services, KAI Commuter, LRT Jabodebek, KAI Wisata, the Makassar–Parepare Railway, KAI Bandara, as well as Whoosh, operated by KCIC.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the growth demonstrates the increasingly broad role of rail-based transportation in meeting people's travel needs, ranging from daily mobility and intercity travel to airport access, regional journeys, premium travel experiences, and high-speed connectivity.
“Each service has a complementary role. When intercity travel is connected with urban transportation, airports, regional services, premium travel, and high-speed rail, people have more options to arrange their journeys according to their needs. This connectivity is what the KAI Group continues to strengthen,” said Anne.
On KAI's Long-Distance and Local Train services, the number of customers reached 35,257,646, an increase of 7.63% from 32,758,315 customers in January–July 2025. These services connect major cities, residential areas, government centers, educational institutions, commercial and industrial areas, as well as various regions across Java and Sumatra. This connectivity supports people's journeys for work, education, business activities, visiting family, and reaching various destinations.
The largest growth in terms of volume came from services operated by KAI Commuter, which served 242,932,764 customers, an increase of 6.65% compared with 227,781,787 customers during the same period last year. Commuter Line supports people's daily mobility by connecting residential areas with employment, education, commercial, and public service centers. Its large mass transportation capacity provides more opportunities for people to use public transportation in their daily activities.
In modern urban transportation, LRT Jabodebek also recorded growth of 20.96%, from 15,772,638 customers to 19,079,347 customers. LRT Jabodebek connects Jakarta with the surrounding areas of Bekasi and Cibubur using Grade of Automation Level 3 or GoA3 technology. The service strengthens connectivity across the metropolitan area while demonstrating the advancement of railway technology developed by Indonesian talent in supporting urban mobility.
Services operated by KAI Wisata recorded 188,860 customers, an increase of 49.95% compared with 125,945 customers in January–July 2025. This growth reflects the increasing interest in travel experiences offering various levels of comfort and service characteristics. KAI Wisata provides services such as Luxury Trains, Panoramic Trains, Istimewa Trains, and Wisata Trains, allowing customers to enjoy journeys with premium facilities while taking in Indonesia's distinctive landscapes and scenery from inside the train.
Connectivity is also being strengthened in Sulawesi through the Makassar–Parepare Railway. From January to July 2026, the service served 206,651 customers, an increase of 13.62% from 181,876 customers during the same period the previous year. The presence of railway services in Sulawesi expands public transportation options while supporting connectivity between regions, economic activity centers, and various areas along the route.
Meanwhile, services operated by KAI Bandara served 4,073,492 customers from January to July 2026, an increase of 0.20% from 4,065,417 customers during the same period in 2025. These services include, among others, the Srilelawangsa Train and the Yogyakarta International Airport Train, strengthening public access to urban areas and airports. Rail-based connectivity to airports provides travel options with more predictable journey times while supporting connections between air and land transportation.
In South Sumatra, LRT Sumsel served 2,604,587 customers throughout January–July 2026. The service connects Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport Station to DJKA Station, passing through Palembang city center and the Jakabaring area. The route provides people with rail-based access to the airport, city center, residential areas, activity centers, and Jakabaring Sport City, expanding urban mobility options in Palembang and supporting connectivity to various activity centers. LRT Sumsel operates along a route with 13 stations connecting the SMB II Airport area to DJKA.
For high-speed rail services, Whoosh, operated by KCIC, served 3,517,396 customers, an increase of 0.01% compared with 3,516,906 customers in January–July 2025. Whoosh represents one of Indonesia's major transportation advancements through the introduction of high-speed rail services that shorten travel time between Jakarta and Bandung. Its presence expands intercity travel options while bringing Indonesia into an era of transportation powered by high-speed rail technology.
Anne said the diversity of these services forms an increasingly comprehensive transportation ecosystem. Commuter Line, LRT Jabodebek, and LRT Sumsel support urban mobility; Long-Distance and Local Trains connect cities and regions; KAI Bandara strengthens access to airports; KAI Wisata provides premium travel experiences; the Makassar–Parepare Railway expands rail connectivity in Sulawesi; while Whoosh provides high-speed intercity connectivity.
“The more connected public transportation services become, the greater the benefits that people can experience. Travel becomes easier, access to economic centers and various regions becomes more open, and social and economic activities can take place with better connectivity,” Anne concluded.
