Gambir Station is evolving beyond its role as a railway station. Through the Modern Station & Lifestyle Hub concept, KAI is transforming one of Jakarta's busiest transportation gateways into a vibrant destination where travel, lifestyle, business, and leisure come together.

Strategically located near the National Monument (Monas), government offices, business districts, hotels, and connected to various public transportation networks, Gambir is envisioned as a dynamic urban space that delivers greater value for both travelers and the surrounding community.

According to KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba, the transformation is designed to enrich the overall customer journey.

Gambir is not only the main gateway for long-distance train travel but also the front porch of central Jakarta. Our vision is to create a place where customers can enjoy dining, shopping, relaxing, and accessing various travel services before continuing their journey or exploring the city.

Today, Gambir Station already hosts a thriving commercial ecosystem with 132 leased commercial spaces, including 67 retail units and 65 open commercial areas. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of services, from restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, bookstores, souvenir shops, lounges, transit hotels, pod hotels, ATMs, vending machines, to various travel support facilities.

The growing commercial activity is supported by strong passenger traffic. After serving more than 6.1 million passengers throughout 2025, averaging approximately 16,700 passengers every day, Gambir welcomed another 3.2 million passengers during the first half of 2026, consisting of 1.65 million departures and 1.57 million arrivals.

This strong customer base encourages KAI to continuously enhance station facilities, offering more comfortable waiting areas, diverse dining options, retail experiences, travel services, and family-friendly public spaces.

We want every corner of Gambir to create greater value—for passengers, business partners, employees, and the surrounding area. Our goal is to make the station more vibrant while delivering a better travel experience.

The existing 67 active commercial units are estimated to support around 134–201 direct jobs, excluding supporting roles such as cleaning services, security personnel, technicians, logistics providers, parking attendants, transit hotel operators, lounge staff, and food suppliers.

As part of the Gambir Business Optimization and Visioning Study, KAI plans to further develop retail areas, culinary destinations, lounges, hotels, rooftop parks, public spaces, and Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) facilities.

The proposed development includes approximately 15,479 square meters of leasable retail space and 3,756 square meters dedicated to hotels and meeting facilities. Once completed, the new commercial area is expected to accommodate around 220–310 businesses, primarily SMEs, with the potential to create 440–930 direct jobs.

Beyond retail operations, the integrated lifestyle hub will also generate demand for supporting professions, including customer service, facility management, landscaping, rooftop operations, logistics, maintenance, security, and parking management. Overall, the New Gambir development is projected to create approximately 500–1,000 direct and supporting employment opportunities, depending on the final design and operational phases.

The transformation also supports KAI's strategy to strengthen its Non-Fare Box (NFB) business by maximizing commercial revenue beyond train ticket sales while enhancing customer experience.

Our vision is for Gambir to become more than a railway station. We are building New Gambir as a gateway to the city a place where people travel, connect, relax, and experience Jakarta, while creating sustainable value for customers, businesses, and the community.
