As the Eid holiday approaches, the number of people traveling home by train typically increases significantly. Amid the excitement of reuniting with family and loved ones, it is important to remember that orderliness and compliance with railway regulations remain top priorities. One rule that passengers must not overlook concerns the destination stated on their train ticket.

Since August 3, 2023, KAI has enforced a policy stating that passengers who intentionally travel beyond the destination specified on their ticket will be subject to serious penalties. The fine imposed can reach twice the ticket fare, and violations may also result in a temporary suspension from using KAI train services.

KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus explained that the policy was introduced to maintain passenger comfort and ensure compliance with onboard regulations. Through routine inspections, KAI strives to ensure that every passenger travels only within the route specified on their ticket.

"As a preventive measure against this type of violation, conductors regularly make announcements over the train's public address system and carry out inspections using the Check Seat Passenger application," said Joni.

Passengers found traveling beyond the destination indicated on their ticket will be informed of the fine, which must be paid onboard, and will be required to disembark at the first available station. The amount of the fine is calculated as twice the lowest subclass partial fare, according to the passenger's travel class, from the destination printed on the ticket to the station where the passenger is required to leave the train.

If a passenger intentionally exceeds the ticketed destination and is unable to pay the fine onboard, they will be required to disembark at the first available station and settle the fine at the station ticket counter within 24 hours. Passengers who fail to pay the fine within the specified period will face additional sanctions. They will be prohibited from traveling on KAI train services for 90 calendar days, while passengers who commit the same violation more than three times may have their travel suspension extended to 180 calendar days.

As part of KAI's commitment to providing safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation services, it is important for all passengers to comply with the applicable regulations. Adhering to the destination stated on the ticket is a shared responsibility that helps ensure smooth operations and the safety and comfort of all passengers.

"Therefore, we remind all passengers to carefully check the destination printed on their ticket before traveling. By doing so, we can work together to create a pleasant, enjoyable, and meaningful travel experience, especially during this year's Eid homecoming season," Joni concluded.
