Drug abuse is a crime that can affect anyone. People from all age groups, backgrounds, and social statuses can become victims. Workers are among the groups that are not immune to drug abuse. Employees involved with drugs can have a negative impact on the companies where they work. Reduced productivity and concentration, as well as the risk of errors that may lead to workplace accidents, can result from drug abuse by employees.

Salah satu langkah nyata yang dilakukan KAI untuk memastikan kesehatan pegawainya adalah dengan rutin melakukan medical check up (MCU) setiap tahun meliputi pemeriksaan fisik hingga tes narkoba.
Annual Medical Check-Ups (MCUs), including physical examinations and drug testing.

To anticipate these risks, KAI, as a company that prioritizes safety, is committed to ensuring that all employees on duty are in excellent physical and mental condition. Therefore, one of KAI's concrete measures to safeguard employee health is conducting routine annual Medical Check-Ups (MCUs), including physical examinations and drug tests.

Drug testing is a mandatory practice at KAI, carried out both through routine MCUs and random testing. KAI has partnered with Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to ensure that all employees remain free from drug abuse. This collaboration is marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Abuse, Illegal Drug Trafficking, and Narcotics Precursors. The partnership has also been implemented by each Operational Area and Regional Division through cooperation agreements with their respective Provincial and Municipal BNN offices.

Throughout 2021, random drug tests were conducted on 1,002 KAI employees. Meanwhile, from January to December 26, 2022, random drug tests were administered to 9,893 employees. This number will continue to increase to ensure that all employees remain healthy and capable of providing excellent service to customers.

According to KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Joni Martinus, random drug testing is conducted at least twice a year for employees on duty.

"This is done to ensure the safety and security of railway operations, especially during the Christmas and New Year transportation period. Through these efforts, we can guarantee that employees on duty are truly healthy and performing at their best to serve customers directly," said Joni.

In addition to drug testing, KAI regularly conducts awareness programs on NAPZA (Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances, and Other Addictive Substances). These sessions are delivered by a team consisting of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), KAI's Directorate of Safety and Security, and KAI's Health Unit. In 2022 (January to December 26), a total of 1,188 employees participated in these awareness programs.

"KAI hopes that this collaboration with BNN will continue, ensuring that all employees remain drug-free and develop into high-quality human resources capable of delivering the best possible service to customers," concluded Joni.
