PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is organizing a Railway Workshop (Balai Yasa) Open House in conjunction with KAI's 77th Anniversary to educate the public regarding the maintenance process for trains and locomotives at KAI's various workshops.

KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that KAI invites the public to witness the ins and outs of the Railway Workshop, which has previously been inaccessible to the general public. The Open House aims to provide a platform for direct interaction between the community and the Railway Workshop.

“This Open House is part of the 77th Anniversary celebration series commemorated on September 28, with the theme 'Rise Faster, Serve Better'. This time, KAI is celebrating its anniversary together with the community through the Open House activity,” said Didiek.

KAI wants to introduce to the public that KAI's services are not only within the station environment but that KAI also has a modern railway workshop, namely Balai Yasa. Balai Yasa plays a role in maintaining facilities to ensure customer safety and comfort.

Balai Yasa is tasked with performing major 2-year and 4-year periodic maintenance of railway facilities with complex difficulty levels. This includes locomotives, passenger trains, freight wagons, and other facility amenities. Meanwhile, routine maintenance such as daily, 6-monthly, and 1-yearly checks for light damage are performed at the Depots.

The Open House will be held at 3 Balai Yasa locations. The opening at each Balai Yasa is scheduled for Friday (23/9) for Balai Yasa Yogyakarta, Sunday (25/9) at Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng, and Monday (26/9) at Balai Yasa Manggarai. The Open House is open to the public and can be attended by anyone who wants to see the Railway Workshop up close.

In the Open House, visitors can see and understand the facility maintenance process, see repaired trains, carriages, and locomotives, view various maintenance facilities, superior products and innovations of the Balai Yasa, the history of each workshop, take a mini-tour of the workshop area, exhibitions of MSME products, as well as games and attractive entertainment.

To maintain order during the Open House, the public must register online in advance. The visitor capacity is 1,000 people per day for Balai Yasa Yogyakarta, 200 people per day for Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng, and 300 people per day for Balai Yasa Manggarai. “We hope the public can utilize this Open House opportunity to better know and understand the train facility maintenance process. By doing so, the public will love and continue to use trains as their preferred mode of transport,” concluded Didiek.
