On the occasion of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero)’s 77th anniversary, KAI through Regional Division I North Sumatra received a gift in the form of an award and medal from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI). This record medal was awarded after Regional Division I conducted safety awareness campaigns at 77 level crossings simultaneously, on September 30, 2022, exactly at 09.00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

MURI appreciated the efforts of Regional Division I and presented an award certificate with the record title “Simultaneous Railway Level Crossing Safety Socialization at the Most Locations.”

The award was presented by MURI Operational Director Jusuf Ngadri to KAI Regional Division I Vice President Yuskal Setiawan at the Regional Division I Office on Sunday (2/10).

Jusuf Ngadri stated that MURI is a non-profit institution that records extraordinary initiatives, works, and achievements from Indonesian citizens.

“These records are expected to inspire everyone. On this occasion, MURI presented a certificate and medal for the record achieved, namely Simultaneous Railway Level Crossing Safety Socialization at the Most Locations, respectfully awarded to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division I North Sumatra,” he said.

Furthermore, Regional Division I Vice President Yuskal Setiawan revealed that achieving the MURI record was possible thanks to the cooperation of all Regional Division I North Sumatra personnel.

“Hopefully, collaboration between units will not stop here. Let us continue improving it by providing benefits to the entire community, especially railway customers. This is a birthday gift for KAI. KAI Rises Faster, Serves Better,” said Yuskal.

The 77 level crossings in the Regional Division I area that became locations for the safety campaign were spread across several cities and regencies in North Sumatra, including Medan, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, Tebing Tinggi, Simalungun, Siantar, Batu Bara, Asahan, Tanjung Balai, North Labuhanbatu, and Binjai.

During the safety campaign implementation at the 77 locations, Regional Division I deployed 350 employees from various units and positions. The activity also involved the Railway Safety Directorate, the Northern Sumatra Railway Engineering Center, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, City/Regency Transportation Offices, the Police, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

A simultaneous safety campaign at 77 level crossings had never previously been carried out in other regions.

The atmosphere of the simultaneous railway level crossing safety campaign activities in the Regional Division I North Sumatra area held on Friday (30/9) at 09.00 WIB.

“Providing safety awareness campaigns to the public and road users around level crossings is not something we have only done once. Almost every month, we conduct these activities at different level crossing locations. However, during KAI’s 77th anniversary momentum, we wanted to reach a wider area, namely 77 level crossings simultaneously,” said Yuskal.

He added that this activity was not merely about achieving a record but mainly about increasing public awareness to comply with traffic regulations at railway level crossings.

Through this safety awareness activity, it is hoped that the public will become more disciplined when crossing railway crossings, prioritize train journeys when crossing gates are closed and warning sirens are activated, and always apply the slogan “BERTEMAN”, which stands for Berhenti Tengok Kanan Kiri Aman Jalan (Stop, Look Right and Left, Ensure It Is Safe to Proceed).
