One of the key positions being prepared is the Train Attendant, who will accompany every Jabodebek LRT journey alongside a Security officer.

KAI is providing a 2.5-month training program for prospective Train Attendants at the Sofyan Hadi Railway Technical Training Center (BPTP) in Bekasi. A total of 123 selected Train Attendant candidates will eventually be assigned to serve on 27 Jabodebek LRT trainsets, with four additional trainsets reserved as backup.

To ensure excellent public service, KAI recruits Train Attendant candidates based on the qualifications stipulated in the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 4 of 2017 concerning Railway Rolling Stock Crew Competency Certification. Candidates must be physically fit and free from color blindness.

Another mandatory qualification for a professional Train Attendant is the ability to communicate fluently in English in order to interact effectively with passengers.

Train Attendants who successfully complete the training program and pass the competency assessment will receive an official certification issued by the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.

"Through thorough preparation of Jabodebek LRT personnel, we hope to provide the highest level of service so customers can experience one of the most advanced urban railway transportation systems in the Greater Jakarta area," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus.

The Jabodebek LRT, which was targeted to begin operations in August 2022, will utilize a Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system with Grade of Automation (GoA) Level 3, enabling trains to operate automatically without a driver.

"Although the Jabodebek LRT will operate without a driver, each trainset will be staffed by two personnel: one Train Attendant and one Security officer," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus.

The Train Attendant is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of Jabodebek LRT operations run normally, providing information to passengers, and delivering customer service throughout the journey.

Train Attendants remain mobile inside the train and do not operate the train during normal operations. This is because the Jabodebek LRT is operated automatically through a centralized Operation Control Center (OCC) or Backup OCC.

"In the event of a disruption, the Train Attendant is responsible for manually operating the train at limited speed and controlling the opening and closing of the train doors," said Joni. (Public Relations KAI)
