Whether you're planning a family vacation, a business trip, visiting loved ones, or simply exploring Central Java and East Java, Kertanegara Train continues to be a favorite travel choice. Between January and May 2026, the service welcomed 168,085 passengers, representing a 5.29% increase compared to 159,637 passengers during the same period in 2025.

According to KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, this steady growth reflects increasing public confidence in Kertanegara as a comfortable, reliable, and convenient way to travel across East Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and Central Java via the central railway corridor.

Kertanegara offers a comfortable travel experience connecting Malang, Blitar, Kediri, Madiun, Solo, Yogyakarta, Kebumen, and Purwokerto. It is an ideal choice for families, students, professionals, business travelers, and tourists looking for a safe, scheduled, and hassle-free journey.

Passenger demand continued to grow throughout the year. In March 2026, Kertanegara served 41,282 passengers, a remarkable 65.94% increase from 24,877 passengers in March 2025. Passenger numbers also climbed in May 2026, reaching 35,807, up from 31,811 during the same month last year.

Operating since 10 March 2021, Kertanegara takes its name from King Kertanagara, the last ruler of the Singasari Kingdom, reflecting the historical heritage of the Greater Malang region while giving the service a distinctive identity.

Passengers can choose between Executive Class and Premium Economy Class, making the train suitable for family holidays, business travel, educational trips, and weekend getaways.

The journey itself is part of the experience. Starting from the Greater Malang area, passengers can board at Malang, Malang Kotalama, or Kepanjen before traveling through Wlingi, Blitar, Tulungagung, Kediri, Kertosono, Nganjuk, Caruban, and Madiun—cities rich in culture, culinary attractions, and local heritage.

Continuing into Central Java and Yogyakarta, the train stops at Sragen, Solo Balapan, Klaten, and Yogyakarta, offering easy access to cultural landmarks, creative hubs, universities, shopping areas, and popular tourist attractions.

The route concludes at Kutoarjo, Kebumen, Kroya, and Purwokerto, providing convenient access to Banyumas and surrounding natural attractions, culinary destinations, and local tourism hotspots. With numerous cities connected in a single journey, Kertanegara offers travelers a seamless and enjoyable travel experience.

Beyond connecting destinations, Kertanegara also contributes to local economies by supporting transportation services, hotels, restaurants, local businesses, and tourism around its station network.

Every station tells its own story. Some passengers are heading to campus, others are meeting family, working, exploring new places, or growing their businesses. We want every journey with Kertanegara to be enjoyable while creating positive value for every city along the route.

Travelers planning weekend trips or school holiday vacations are encouraged to book early. Ticket availability, schedules, and fares can be accessed through the Access by KAI app, KAI's official website, and other authorized ticketing channels.

Experience a safer, smoother, and more enjoyable way to travel across Java with Kertanegara where every journey becomes part of the adventure.
