Traveling by Train on the Weekend, KAI Reminds Customers to Check Their Belongings Before Getting Off
As the weekend approaches, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reminds customers to check all their belongings again before getting off the train or leaving the station area. Checking the luggage racks, seats, and areas around the customer is a simple step to ensure that the journey ends comfortably.
Throughout January–July 2026, KAI recorded 14,890 found items across its operational areas, with an estimated value of approximately Rp10.84 billion. Of this total, 10,795 were categorized as ordinary items, 3,371 as valuable items, and 724 as food items.
Valuable items secured by officers included mobile phones, tablets, laptops, jewelry, cash, as well as electronic devices and other valuable personal belongings. These various items were found inside train carriages and within station areas, then recorded and secured through KAI’s Lost and Found service.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that increased public mobility on weekends needs to be accompanied by greater attention to personal belongings, especially for customers traveling with their families or carrying several items during the journey.
“Before getting off, we encourage customers to take a moment to check their seats, luggage racks, and belongings. This simple habit can help customers enjoy a more comfortable journey until they arrive at their destination,” said Anne.
KAI data shows that in July 2026 alone, an additional 2,234 found items were recorded, including 502 valuable items, with an estimated value of approximately Rp1.98 billion. This record serves as an important reminder for customers, especially when getting off at crowded stations.
At the same time, KAI officers continue to help reunite found items with their owners. By the end of July 2026, a total of 7,066 items had been returned to their owners after going through the recording and verification process.
If customers realize that they have left an item behind, they are advised to immediately report it to Customer Service, Passenger Service, the conductor, or security officers. Information such as the train name or number, travel route, train and seat number, travel time, and the characteristics of the item will help with the search process.
Officers will then coordinate with officers on board the train and at the relevant stations to conduct a search. If the item is found, it will be secured, and customers can retrieve it after the ownership verification process by presenting identification and proof of travel if required.
For customers who have already left the station area, reports can also be submitted through the KAI121 Contact Center at 121, email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), or KAI121’s official social media channels.
“We want every journey to end with a sense of safety and comfort. Therefore, customers’ attention to their belongings and the speed of reporting when a loss occurs are important parts of maintaining the quality of the journey. KAI will continue to strengthen coordination among officers and the management of Lost and Found so that every found item can be returned to its owner as quickly as possible,” concluded Anne.
