Three Stations Connected to Passenger Seaports Served 3.88 Million Passenger Movements During the First Semester of 2026
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded positive performance at three railway stations directly connected to passenger seaports: Merak Station in Banten, Ketapang Station in Banyuwangi, and Tanjung Priok Station in North Jakarta. During the first semester of 2026, these three stations recorded a combined total of 3,880,577 boarding and alighting passenger movements, an increase of 5.12% compared with 3,691,429 passenger movements during the same period in 2025.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the achievement highlights the important role of rail transportation in connecting passengers to key maritime transport hubs.
"Not every seaport provides passenger services. Therefore, railway stations connected to ferry terminals and passenger seaports play a strategic role in helping people continue their journeys through seamless intermodal transportation," Anne said.
Merak Station serves as one of the key gateways for passengers continuing their journeys to Merak Port for ferry crossings to Sumatra. Between January and June 2026, Merak Station recorded 306,571 boarding passengers and 331,640 alighting passengers. Total passenger movements reached 638,211, representing an increase of 16.64% compared with 547,171 passenger movements during the first semester of 2025.
Merak Station serves passengers traveling on the Rangkasbitung–Merak Local Commuter Line. Along this corridor, KAI also operates the Farmers and Traders Train, which provides a more suitable travel environment for farmers, traders, and passengers transporting merchandise and agricultural products.
During the first semester of 2026, the Farmers and Traders Train on the Rangkasbitung–Merak route served 26,074 passengers. Since the service began operating on December 1, 2025, it has served a cumulative total of 30,189 passengers, consisting of 4,115 passengers during its initial month of operation in December 2025 and 26,074 passengers between January and June 2026.
Positive performance was also recorded on the regular Rangkasbitung–Merak Local Train service. During the first semester of 2026, the service carried 2,414,115 passengers, an increase of 9.40% compared with 2,206,671 passengers during the same period in 2025.
"The Rangkasbitung–Merak corridor plays an important role in supporting people's daily activities. Passengers use the service for work, trade, transporting agricultural products, tourism, and onward travel to Merak Port," Anne said.
In Banyuwangi, Ketapang Station also serves as an important rail gateway connected to Ketapang Port, which provides ferry services to Gilimanuk, Bali. Formerly known as Banyuwangi Baru Station, the station is located within walking distance of the port, allowing passengers to continue directly to the ferry terminal after arriving by train.
During the first semester of 2026, Ketapang Station recorded 191,115 boarding passengers and 211,347 alighting passengers. Total passenger movements reached 402,462, representing growth of 7.06% compared with 375,927 passenger movements during the first semester of 2025.
In North Jakarta, Tanjung Priok Station also serves as a railway station connected to a passenger port area. Unlike Merak and Ketapang, which provide access to ferry terminals, Tanjung Priok is connected to the passenger terminal serving ocean-going passenger vessels.
During the first semester of 2026, Tanjung Priok Station recorded 1,488,531 boarding passengers and 1,351,373 alighting passengers. Total passenger movements reached 2,839,904, an increase of 2.59% compared with 2,768,331 passenger movements during the first semester of 2025.
Tanjung Priok Station currently serves the Jakarta Kota–Tanjung Priok Commuter Line. The corridor has become even more significant following the introduction of Commuter Line services connected to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station, expanding mobility options for communities across North Jakarta.
Anne emphasized that railway connectivity with passenger seaports delivers direct benefits to the public. Rail services provide passengers with a more reliable, efficient, and well-integrated means of reaching ferry terminals and passenger ports while connecting them to key activity centers.
"KAI will continue strengthening services at stations that play a strategic role in intermodal connectivity. Merak, Ketapang, and Tanjung Priok demonstrate how railways can serve as vital links to maritime transportation, whether for ferry crossings or inter-island passenger ship services," Anne concluded.
