In the First Semester of 2026, KAI’s Rail Clinic Was Present in Three Locations, Bringing Healthcare Services Closer to Residents Around Stations
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) provided Rail Clinic services at three locations throughout the first semester of 2026. The healthcare train visited Bumiwaluya Station in Citeras, Malangbong District, Garut Regency; Cipunagara Station in Cipunagara District, Subang Regency; and Sukamenanti Station in Pidada Village, Panjang District, Bandar Lampung City.
Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that Rail Clinic is one of KAI's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs aimed at bringing basic healthcare services closer to communities living along railway lines. Through this service, residents can undergo health check-ups, consult with medical personnel, receive medication based on examination results, and obtain health education.
"Rail Clinic brings healthcare services closer to the community. KAI wants the presence of railways to be felt in the daily lives of people, especially those living around stations and railway lines," said Anne.
Rail Clinic is equipped with general examination rooms, dental services, maternal healthcare services with ultrasound (USG) facilities, a basic laboratory, eye examinations, and a pharmacy. These facilities enable the public to access various basic healthcare services within a single train.
According to the 2025 Malangbong District in Figures publication by Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Citeras is located approximately 3 kilometers from the center of Malangbong District and 35 kilometers from the capital of Garut Regency. BPS data also shows that Malangbong District has one hospital, one inpatient community health center, one outpatient community health center, and seven pharmacies.
Anne explained that outreach healthcare services remain important for communities living near railway stations. Rail Clinic provides residents with easier access to initial health examinations, particularly for those with limited time, travel costs, or who require family assistance when accessing healthcare services.
"For some residents, health check-ups are often postponed due to daily activities, travel distance, transportation costs, or the need for family assistance. When Rail Clinic comes to the station, healthcare services become much easier to access," Anne said.
At Bumiwaluya, Rail Clinic served residents living around Bumiwaluya Station in Garut. Community members received basic healthcare services, elderly residents received medical attention, mothers and children benefited from healthcare services, while schoolchildren enjoyed educational activities through the Rail Library.
The Rail Library at Bumiwaluya provided children with an engaging reading experience. They were able to explore book collections, read together with friends, and discover railway stations and trains as enjoyable learning spaces.
In Cipunagara, Subang Regency, Rail Clinic services were also accompanied by the Rail Library. KAI provided free healthcare services for communities around the station, supported by medical personnel and healthcare facilities available on board the Rail Clinic train.
The Rail Library features bookshelves filled with a variety of reading materials that visitors can access. It also offers a reading area equipped with sofas and carpeted floor seating, creating a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for children to read.
In addition to printed books, the Rail Library provides digital learning services through six computers connected to an e-library system. Students can access digital reading materials, educational content, and audiovisual resources via an internet connection.
"At Bumiwaluya and Cipunagara, Rail Clinic and Rail Library have become spaces where communities can maintain their health while expanding their literacy. Every activity creates meaningful stories.
There are children becoming more interested in reading, mothers ensuring their children's healthy growth and development, and elderly residents feeling more at ease after receiving medical check-ups. KAI is grateful to be able to accompany them," Anne said.
Meanwhile, at Sukamenanti Station in Bandar Lampung City, Rail Clinic served residents of Pidada Village, Panjang District, and surrounding areas. According to the 2025 Panjang District in Figures publication by BPS, Pidada is located approximately 3 kilometers from the center of Panjang District and 8 kilometers from downtown Bandar Lampung. At the district level, Panjang does not yet have a hospital, but has one inpatient community health center and three pharmacies.
According to Anne, the presence of Rail Clinic at Sukamenanti helps expand access to basic healthcare services for communities around the station. The services focus on general medical examinations, maternal healthcare, eye care, dental care, maternal and child health, basic laboratory services, medication based on examination results, and health education.
"Rail Clinic does not replace existing healthcare facilities. Instead, it helps expand access to basic healthcare services, particularly for residents who need initial medical examinations, consultations, and health education close to where they live," Anne said.
Anne added that railways have a broad social role. In addition to providing transportation services and connecting regions, railways can also serve as a means of delivering direct benefits to communities.
"KAI wants communities to feel that railways are part of their daily lives. When the healthcare train arrives at a station, it brings care, attention, and compassion to the community," Anne said.
Through Rail Clinic and Rail Library, KAI continues to strengthen its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility programs through initiatives that address the basic needs of local communities. Healthcare, literacy, education, and community engagement remain essential parts of KAI's efforts to build stronger relationships with people living along railway lines.
"Rail Clinic brings doctors, healthcare professionals, and health education directly to communities. At Bumiwaluya and Cipunagara, Rail Library also provides additional learning spaces for children. From small railway stations, these services deliver meaningful benefits that are closely connected to the needs of local residents," Anne concluded.
