PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to prepare capacity enhancements for the Bogor Line with a focus on customer needs. The development of platforms for tracks 6, 7, and 8 at Bogor Station is being carried out alongside the renewal of KRL Commuter Line Jabodetabek rolling stock to help reduce congestion, improve boarding and alighting flows, and enhance travel comfort, particularly during peak hours.

Throughout the first semester of 2026, the Bogor Line served 78,077,679 customers. With a service period of 181 days, the line served an average of approximately 431,368 customers per day.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the high volume of customers makes capacity enhancement an essential need. Service improvements are directed to ensure that customers experience more adequate travel space, more organized platform flows, and increasingly reliable services in their daily activities.

“Hundreds of thousands of customers rely on the Bogor Line every day for work, education, and various activities. Therefore, service development is designed by considering customer needs from entering the station, waiting on the platform, boarding the KRL, to arriving at their destination,” said Anne.

This need is also reflected in the high level of activity at Bogor Station. During January–June 2026, the station recorded 18,451,462 customer movements, consisting of 9,371,057 gate-in and 9,080,405 gate-out. The average activity reached approximately 101,942 customer movements per day.

To respond to this high level of activity, KAI is preparing platforms for tracks 6, 7, and 8 to support the operation of KRL trainsets with a 12-car formation or SF12. Previously, these tracks were able to serve a maximum of SF10 formations. This development will provide greater flexibility in managing the arrivals and departures of SF12 KRL at Bogor Station.

The platforms for tracks 6, 7, and 8 have undergone joint testing involving infrastructure, rolling stock, and operations teams. This stage was conducted to ensure the readiness of tracks, platforms, overhead electrical systems, SF12 KRL rolling stock, and operational patterns before the facilities are used for customer service.

The joint testing followed load testing using a locomotive on 29 June 2026 and operational trial runs of the KRL on 1 July 2026. All testing results serve as evaluation and refinement materials in the final stage of the project.

“Joint testing ensures that rolling stock, infrastructure, and operational patterns are aligned in readiness. Inspections are carried out carefully as customer safety and travel reliability are the primary considerations before the facilities are put into service,” Anne stated.

The development includes track and platform extensions, structural and architectural works, overhead electrical system arrangements, mechanical and electrical works, as well as supporting facilities. Platform canopies or overcapping are also being prepared to improve customer comfort while waiting for the KRL in both hot and rainy conditions.

When the platforms for tracks 6, 7, and 8 are ready to serve SF12, train arrivals and departures can be managed more flexibly. This condition is expected to help distribute customers across more platforms, reduce concentration in certain areas, and make boarding and alighting processes more orderly.

The strengthening of infrastructure at Bogor Station is carried out in parallel with the renewal of KRL Commuter Line Jabodetabek rolling stock. The procurement program includes 27 new trainsets or 324 cars, consisting of 11 trainsets produced by CRRC and 16 trainsets produced by PT INKA (Persero).

Based on the latest internal update, 18 out of the 27 new trainsets or 216 cars have been put into operation, consisting of 11 CRRC trainsets and 7 INKA trainsets. The remaining nine INKA trainsets are continuing their respective stages according to progress before being deployed in service.

The placement of each trainset is adjusted to operational needs across various KRL Jabodetabek service lines. All 11 CRRC trainsets have been gradually deployed to strengthen the Bogor Line and Cikarang Line services.

Several of these new trainsets have reinforced the Bogor Line. In June 2025, two CRRC trainsets began serving the line. Subsequently, two INKA trainsets started regular operations on the Bogor Line in December 2025 after obtaining safety certification and operational feasibility approval from the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.

Anne explained that SF12 trainsets provide greater capacity in a single journey. The provision of higher-capacity rolling stock must be supported by the readiness of platforms, tracks, electrical systems, maintenance facilities, personnel, and operational arrangements so that the benefits can be optimally experienced by customers.

“The focus of strengthening the Bogor Line is the daily customer experience. Greater capacity, better distribution of customers across platforms, smoother boarding and alighting flows, and reliable rolling stock are expected to help reduce congestion during periods of high travel demand,” said Anne.

During the final stage of the project, KAI together with KAI Commuter continues to prepare customer flow arrangements, service information, and staff deployment at Bogor Station. Customers are advised to pay attention to travel information and follow staff directions while in the station area.

“With an average of more than 431 thousand customers per day on the Bogor Line, every capacity enhancement must provide clear benefits to customers. KAI together with KAI Commuter continues to align the readiness of SF12 platforms, new rolling stock, and operations so that journeys become more comfortable, safe, and well-organized,” Anne concluded.
