PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that 9,614 seats on commercial economy-class Long-Distance Trains with a 17% discount had been booked as of August 15, 2026, at 09:00 WIB. The promotion is still available out of a total of 67,120 seats prepared for special departures on August 17, 2026.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said that the Independence Day moment provides an opportunity for people to plan their journeys with more affordable options while remaining comfortable.

“Travel during the Independence Day period holds many meanings. Some people travel home to meet their families, visit tourist destinations, carry out economic activities, or attend various events in other cities. We want this promotion to provide an additional option so that people can plan their journeys according to their needs,” Bobby said.

Bobby emphasized that the 17% discount applies specifically to commercial economy-class Long-Distance Trains. Outside of this program, the public also continues to have access to PSO train services with affordable fares according to the available routes and schedules.

“This promotion is one of the options available for commercial economy-class train customers. Meanwhile, PSO train services remain available as an alternative for travel at affordable fares. People can choose the service that best suits their needs, schedules, and travel destinations,” Bobby said.

Promo ticket bookings are still ongoing until August 17, 2026, while the allocation remains available. The discount applies to departures of commercial economy-class Long-Distance Trains on August 17, 2026, across Java and Sumatra. Tickets can be booked through Access by KAI and KAI’s official sales channels.

The promotional period coincides with high public mobility during August 14–17, 2026. As of August 15, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, ticket sales for Long-Distance Trains and Local Trains operated by KAI had reached 619,795 customers out of a capacity of 658,688 seats, with an overall occupancy rate of 94.10%.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that ticket sales were spread throughout the entire Independence Day long weekend period. Departures on August 14 recorded 190,361 customers, August 15 recorded 168,518 customers, August 16 recorded 125,095 customers, and August 17 had reached 135,821 customers. The number of passengers departing on the following dates may still increase as ticket sales continue.

“This data shows that public mobility is taking place throughout the period from August 14 to 17. For customers who are still planning their journey on Independence Day, the 17% discount promotion can still be utilized while ticket allocations remain available,” Anne said.

Based on booking volume, the five most popular routes during the long holiday period were Yogyakarta–Gambir with 9,882 customers, Gambir–Yogyakarta with 9,431 customers, Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen with 6,744 customers, Gambir–Semarang Tawang with 6,692 customers, and Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng–Gambir with 6,649 customers.

Meanwhile, the five departure stations with the highest customer volumes were Pasar Senen with 45,463 customers, Gambir with 41,452 customers, Yogyakarta with 40,742 customers, Semarang Tawang with 26,020 customers, and Surabaya Gubeng with 22,346 customers.

Anne said that the high travel volume on several routes shows strong intercity mobility during the Independence Day long weekend, both for tourism and various public activities.

“We encourage customers to regularly check ticket availability and schedules through KAI’s official channels. Travel options are still available, including the 17% promotion for commercial economy-class trains on August 17,” Anne concluded.

KAI will continue to monitor ticket sales developments and adjust services at stations and during the journey to support the smooth mobility of the public during the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
