Platforms 6, 7, and 8 at Bogor Station Now Serve SF12 as KAI Continues Platform and Access Development to Bogor Paledang

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to strengthen service capacity at Bogor Station in response to the high mobility of Commuter Line passengers. Since 15 July 2026, Platforms 6, 7, and 8 have been operational to serve 12-car Commuter Line trainsets (SF12).

With the operation of Platforms 6, 7, and 8, all platforms at Bogor Station are now capable of accommodating SF12 trainsets. Previously, Platforms 6, 7, and 8 could only serve trainsets of up to 10 cars (SF10).

During the first semester of 2026, the Bogor Line served 78,077,679 passengers. Over the 181-day period, the line recorded an average daily ridership of approximately 431,368 passengers.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the significant passenger volume makes capacity enhancement an essential priority. The service improvements are aimed at providing passengers with more travel space, better-organized platform flows, and increasingly reliable journeys to support their daily activities.

"Hundreds of thousands of passengers rely on the Bogor Line every day to commute to work, school, access public services, and carry out various daily activities. Therefore, service development is designed by considering passengers' needs from the moment they enter the station, wait on the platform, board the train, until they arrive at their destination," said Anne.

The high level of mobility on the Bogor Line is reflected in passenger activity at Bogor Station. Based on KAI's first semester 2026 data, Bogor Station recorded the highest Commuter Line passenger movement among all stations serving the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line network.

From January to June 2026, Bogor Station recorded 18,451,462 Commuter Line passenger movements, consisting of 9,371,057 gate-ins and 9,080,405 gate-outs. This represents an average of approximately 101,942 passenger movements per day.

Passenger activity at Bogor Station has also continued to increase over recent years. Throughout 2025, the station recorded 18,199,619 gate-ins and 18,171,350 gate-outs, exceeding the 2024 figures of 17,124,802 gate-ins and 17,276,284 gate-outs.
The high passenger movement is supported by the intensive Commuter Line operations at Bogor Station. Currently, 392 Commuter Line services operate on weekdays, while 373 services run on weekends.

Anne explained that enabling SF12 operations across all platforms provides greater flexibility in managing train arrivals and departures. The increased capacity also allows passengers to be distributed across more platforms, making boarding and alighting more orderly.

Before being put into service, Platforms 6, 7, and 8 underwent a series of tests. A locomotive load test was conducted on 29 June 2026, followed by Commuter Line operational trials on 1 July 2026, as well as integrated testing involving infrastructure, rolling stock, and operational teams.

These tests were carried out to ensure the readiness of the tracks, platforms, overhead catenary system, SF12 trainsets, and operational patterns before the facilities were opened for passenger service.

"Each stage of testing was conducted comprehensively to ensure that infrastructure, rolling stock, and operational readiness were fully aligned. Passenger safety and service reliability remain our primary considerations before any facility is put into operation," Anne added.

The development of Bogor Station will continue with construction works on Platforms 4 and 5, improvements to Platforms 2 and 3, and the installation of escalators providing access to Bogor Paledang Station.

At Platforms 4 and 5, KAI has begun constructing platform canopies (overcapping). This work is part of the company's efforts to improve passenger safety and comfort while waiting for or transferring to and from Commuter Line services.

During the construction of the canopies on Platforms 4 and 5, passenger boarding and alighting activities have been concentrated on Platforms 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 since 18 July 2026. Operational arrangements have been prepared to ensure that Commuter Line services at Bogor Station continue to operate normally according to schedule.

At Platforms 2 and 3, the project focuses on extending the existing canopies. The current canopy covers approximately 100 meters, equivalent to five train cars. KAI will extend the canopy by approximately 140 meters to cover the remaining seven cars, providing full protection for SF12 train operations.

In addition to platform improvements, KAI plans to install escalators at the eastern concourse on the southern side of Bogor Station. The escalators will connect the station with the skybridge leading to Bogor Paledang Station, making transfers between services easier and more convenient.

Bogor Paledang Station serves the Pangrango train operating on the Bogor Paledang–Sukabumi round-trip route. During the first semester of 2026, the Pangrango service carried 591,479 passengers, an increase of 6.69 percent compared with 554,394 passengers during the same period in 2025.

The planned enhancement of connectivity between Bogor Station and Bogor Paledang Station is expected to make transfers easier for Commuter Line passengers continuing their journey on the Pangrango train to Sukabumi, as well as for passengers arriving from Sukabumi and continuing to destinations across Greater Jakarta.

"Transfers between rail services should be supported by convenient and seamless access. The installation of escalators connecting to the Bogor Paledang skybridge is expected to provide passengers with a more practical and comfortable transfer experience," Anne said.

Infrastructure improvements at Bogor Station are being carried out alongside the renewal of the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line fleet. The procurement program covers 27 new 12-car trainsets (SF12), totaling 324 railcars.

The procurement consists of 11 SF12 trainsets manufactured by CRRC and 16 SF12 trainsets produced by PT INKA (Persero). Based on the latest internal update, 18 SF12 trainsets, or 216 railcars, are already in operation, including all 11 CRRC trainsets and seven trainsets manufactured by PT INKA.

The remaining nine SF12 trainsets produced by PT INKA are progressing through their respective preparation stages before entering passenger service. The deployment of each trainset will be adjusted according to operational requirements across various Greater Jakarta Commuter Line corridors.

All 11 CRRC-built SF12 trainsets have been gradually introduced to strengthen services on the Bogor Line and Cikarang Line. In June 2025, two CRRC trainsets began operating on the Bogor Line. Subsequently, in December 2025, two PT INKA-built trainsets entered regular service on the Bogor Line after obtaining safety certification and operational approval from the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.

Anne stated that SF12 trainsets provide greater passenger capacity in each trip. However, operating higher-capacity rolling stock must be supported by the readiness of platforms, tracks, power supply systems, maintenance facilities, personnel, and operational arrangements to ensure passengers fully benefit from the increased capacity.

"With the Bogor Line serving an average of more than 431,000 passengers every day, every capacity enhancement must deliver tangible benefits. KAI continues to align the readiness of SF12 platforms, canopy development, new rolling stock, operational arrangements, and connectivity to Bogor Paledang so that passengers can enjoy journeys that are more comfortable, safer, and better organized," Anne concluded.
