Every day, trains carry the diverse stories of Indonesian society. There are workers who rely on trains for their daily activities, families traveling together, business owners sending goods, and tourists exploring different regions.

Behind these millions of journeys, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to develop its services while maintaining a balance between public needs, business growth, and environmental sustainability.

KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that KAI’s journey is always connected to the people who use its services, the economic activities it supports, and the environment that must be protected.

“KAI is here to serve the various travel needs of the public. In every service development, KAI considers how the benefits can be felt by customers, support economic growth, and at the same time protect the environment,” said Anne.

This spirit is reflected in KAI’s 81st Anniversary philosophy through the concept of People, Profit, Planet. The People element represents people as the center of every journey and transformation, Profit reflects business growth, productivity, and sustainable value creation, while Planet represents the commitment to the environment and a greener future for transportation.

In terms of public services, KAI Group continues to be part of the daily mobility of Indonesian society. From January to August 2026, KAI Group served 351,602,397 customers, an increase of 7.09 percent compared to the same period last year.

This figure includes various services, ranging from commuter trains for daily activities and long-distance trains for intercity travel to airport services, high-speed trains, and tourist journeys.

In addition to supporting public mobility, KAI also contributes to economic activities through freight transportation services. In the first half of 2026, KAI’s freight transportation reached 32,498,043 tons, covering various commodities transported through the railway network.

In terms of the environment, KAI continues to implement various sustainability programs. One of these is the provision of 124 Water Stations at 58 stations.

These facilities provide customers with an option to refill drinking water using reusable containers. Within six months, the Water Stations are estimated to have helped avoid the use of around 2.99 million plastic bottles.

KAI is also expanding the use of renewable energy by operating 113 solar power plants (PLTS) at 92 locations, with a total capacity of 4,430.65 kWp.

“Train journeys are not only about moving from one place to another, but also about how transportation can provide benefits to society and the surrounding environment,” said Anne.

The philosophy behind the number 81 in KAI’s 81st Anniversary represents the company’s journey from experience toward transformation and from achievements toward a greater future. The connection between the numbers 8 and 1 represents the process of growing together with KAI employees, customers, partners, and the community.

Through the spirit of Semakin Melayani, KAI continues to provide journeys that create value for society, support economic activities, and protect environmental sustainability.
