Record High, 96,940 Foreign Tourists Travelled by Train in July 2026

Train travel is increasingly becoming a preferred choice for international tourists to explore various cities across Indonesia. In July 2026, KAI served 96,940 international tourists (wisman) using Long-Distance Train services. This figure became the highest monthly volume since 2022.

The July 2026 figure increased by 8.28% compared to July 2025, which recorded 89,526 wisman. The figure was also 67.21% higher than the January–July 2026 monthly average of approximately 57,973 wisman.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said the growth demonstrates the increasingly strong position of Train services in intercity tourism travel for international tourists.

“Nearly 97 thousand international tourists used Long-Distance Train services in July 2026. This marks the highest monthly figure since 2022 and shows that Train travel is increasingly becoming part of their tourism journeys in Indonesia,” said Anne.

Cumulatively, from January–July 2026 KAI has served 405,814 wisman, an increase of 3.86% compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 390,745 wisman.

The growth continues the upward trend in the use of Train services by international tourists over the past several years. In 2022, the number of wisman using Long-Distance Train services was recorded at 300,708 people, increasing to 580,995 people in 2023, then 669,226 people in 2024, and reaching 694,123 people in 2025. As of July 2026, the number had reached 405,814 wisman.

The departure choices of wisman are also spread across cities with high tourism activity. In July 2026, Yogyakarta Station recorded the highest number of wisman departures, namely 21,933 people. It was followed by Gambir with 18,480 wisman and Bandung with 9,330 wisman.

The 10 departure stations with the highest wisman volume in July 2026 are:

3. Bandung: 9,330 wisman
4. Surabaya Gubeng: 4,194 wisman
5. Pasarsenen: 4,093 wisman
6. Malang: 3,661 wisman
7. Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng: 3,167 wisman
8. Probolinggo: 3,061 wisman
9. Lempuyangan: 1,977 wisman
10. Solo Balapan: 1,808 wisman
     

The ten stations served 71,704 wisman, or approximately 73.97% of all wisman using Long-Distance Train services in July 2026. The distribution demonstrates the strong role of Train services in connecting Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Malang, Semarang, Probolinggo, and Solo with various destinations and tourism activities in each region.

“Tourists can travel from one city to another through scheduled journeys connected to various destinations. KAI will continue to maintain service quality so that the experience of using Train services becomes increasingly comfortable and memorable for tourists while exploring Indonesia,” concluded Anne.
