Starting Today! 67,120 Discounted Train Tickets at 17% Off Available for August 17 Travel
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is opening bookings today, Friday (August 14), for 67,120 seats on commercial economy-class long-distance trains with a 17% discount. The promotional tickets are valid specifically for departures on August 17, 2026, complementing the special Rp8 fare that will apply to LRT Jabodebek and several Commuter Line services on Independence Day.
The program carries the spirit of the theme for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.” Through more affordable fares, people are expected to have greater opportunities to travel for various activities, from returning to their hometowns, meeting family, and traveling for leisure to visiting economic activity centers and public spaces in various regions.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said that prosperity is closely connected to people's ability to access various opportunities. Public transportation plays a role in making travel between regions easier and people's activities more efficient.
“Prosperity begins with opportunities that people can access. When people can travel more easily, they can more easily meet their families, work, trade, travel, and access various opportunities. During this Independence Day momentum, we want train travel to help open up more of these opportunities,” said Bobby.
According to Bobby, the 17% and Rp8 fares were chosen to bring the spirit of Independence directly into people's journeys. The promotion also provides opportunities for more people to enjoy public transportation on August 17.
Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that people can start looking for the 17% discounted tickets for commercial economy-class trains today, August 14, 2026, starting at 00:01 WIB through Access by KAI and the kai.id website. The booking period runs until August 17, 2026, at 23:59 WIB, while ticket allocations and promotional fares are still available.
“Starting today, 67,120 seats with a 17% discount are available for booking. So, if you already have travel plans for August 17, now is the time to check the schedule and choose your journey. The earlier you plan, the more train and schedule options you will have to match your needs,” said Anne.
The 17% discount applies to commercial economy-class long-distance trains in Java and Sumatra, with departures specifically on August 17, 2026, from 00:01 to 24:00 WIB. Promotional fares cannot be combined with other reductions or discounts, while cancellations and schedule changes can still be made in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions.
The Independence Day fare promotion also extends to urban travel. On August 17, 2026, people can enjoy the Rp8 fare for LRT Jabodebek, Commuter Line Jabodetabek, Jakarta Area I Local Train, Bandung Area II Local Train, Yogyakarta Area VI Local Train, and Surabaya Area VIII Local Train. The fare does not apply to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line.
Anne said that the promotion, covering both intercity and agglomeration travel, allows people with various travel needs to benefit from the Independence Day fares.
“Some people take trains to return home and meet their families, while others travel to work, conduct business, travel for leisure, or celebrate August 17 in public spaces. This kind of mobility brings activities to life in many cities. We want the spirit of A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia to be felt more closely through people's daily journeys,” concluded Anne.
KAI encourages people to plan their journeys early and recheck the schedules and promotional terms before making a transaction. Travel information and details of the discount programs are available through Access by KAI, the kai.id website, and the KAI Contact Center 121.
