Merah Putih Keeps Moving Forward, KAI Unveils 81st Anniversary Livery on Select Train Services
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is enlivening Independence Month by introducing a special livery commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on several intercity train services.
The red-and-white-themed livery is featured on KA Pandalungan 2 serving the Jember–Gambir round-trip route, KA Argo Wilis and KA Turangga serving the Bandung–Surabaya Gubeng round-trip route, as well as KA Gajayana serving the Malang–Gambir round-trip route.
Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that the Independence-themed livery brings the atmosphere of the Independence Day celebration closer to people’s journeys.
“Every day, trains connect cities, families, workplaces, educational centers, tourist destinations, and various community activities. During this Independence Month, the spirit of the Red and White travels along with those journeys,” said Anne.
The livery carries the spirit of the official theme of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026, “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.” The Independence visual identity is displayed on the exterior of the train sets with red and white elements that strengthen the atmosphere of the Independence celebration throughout the journey.
The presence of the livery on several train services brings the spirit of Independence across various regions of Java. Pandalungan 2 connects Jember and Jakarta, Argo Wilis and Turangga connect Bandung and Surabaya, while Gajayana connects Malang and Jakarta.
According to Anne, these routes illustrate how trains continue to play a role in connecting communities across regions. Every journey brings together various purposes, ranging from family, work, and education to tourism and economic activities.
“The spirit of Independence holds a meaning that is closely connected to train travel. From one region to another, people are connected and various activities continue to take place. KAI wants customers to experience the excitement of the 81st Independence Day celebration from the moment they arrive at the station and throughout their journey,” said Anne.
The Independence-themed livery is also part of KAI’s efforts to create a travel experience that aligns with national moments. The red-and-white elements on the train sets are expected to foster a sense of togetherness while also serving as a reminder that Indonesia’s journey has been built through connections between communities and regions.
KAI summarizes this spirit through the message, “The Red and White Keeps Moving Forward, 81 Years of Indonesia, One Spirit of the Nation’s Journey.”
“Eighty-one years of Indonesia’s independence is a long journey that we continue together. KAI will continue to play its part through transportation services that connect communities and various centers of activity, in line with the spirit of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” Anne concluded.
